I usually just ask to take PTO. No excuse needed.

Oh…well, since it’s a famiy business and the boss is my Dad, I’ll look at him and say, “I hate this place and everyone in it.”  and walk out, just before I get to the door, he’ll say, “Love you, see you tomorrow.”  and I’ll reply, “Not if I see you first.”

Doesn’t happen often, but whatever, it works.

Hmmmm at my current job I dont really need to make an excuse, but in the past I have used

  • taking dog to vet
  • not feeling well
  • other appointment
  • get new tires or something done on car
  • help a friend or Darling Husband with some problem
  • ummm I cant think what else

This has actually happened to me but it’s also a good excuse. Fiance is locked out of the house, doesn’t have a house key on him. Darn, I better go home early. We live in a very rural area so it’s not like he can run to a buddies house until I get home. Awesome!

I used “I have to get home to my baby because…. and the husband is having issues with….”

It really worked to my advantage when Darling Husband was on parental ๐Ÿ™‚

Uhh ya don’t have that luxury here. My boss is the devil; so unless I have a dr. note; I’m not going anywhere!

Part of my contract means I can’t drive to work, so I take the bus. One of my schools is really rural, so there are onyl 2 busses out. If I have no afternoon classes I simply ask to take the early bus! I don’t pull this often though.

I just use PTO. Especially now since we’re at the end of the year and I have like 7 days to use up or lose them.

@farawayviolet:  Your contract doesn’t allow you to drive…??

I only leave early if I’ve gotten previous approval — can’t just leave the kids!

@peachacid:  I live in Japan. Laws can be different here. If I understand correctly, it’s because of some insurance thing. As a result, I get all of my to and from work public transpot paid for. But yeah, one of the things I am looking forward to most when I move countries is being able to drive to work (and Costco – try doing that with multiple trains and connections!) again ๐Ÿ™‚

@farawayviolet:  That’s really interesting!  I didn’t drive when I lived in Philly and I can tell you — it is such a relief to have a car for grocery shopping!  I only really minded being carless when it rained, though,

Doctors’ appointments or physical therapy. I was in a BAD car accident this past spring and I WAS going to a LOT of doctors’ appts. and physical therapy. I am pretty much done but my employers don’t know that!!! Tongue Out

I don’t use many excuses, mostly because we are required to give one. It’s our time, not theirs. Personally, though – I usually DO tell them what I’m up to ๐Ÿ˜› Most of the time it’s because I have a gig ๐Ÿ™‚
