I love to shop. I do! I’m a bargain hunter, but money just burns a hole in my pocket sometimes. I realized the two people I shop with most drive me insane for totally different reasons.
For one, my mom. She’s worse than me, is a terrible influence when I’m trying to stick to a budget. She’s very, “Just get them both!!” and loves shopping for 9 hours. SHE IS RIDICULOUS!!! I’ve learned to take my own car when we go shopping b/c it’s NEVER ENDING.
Then there’s my Fiance, who just this weekend said, “I’ll come with you shopping…” HE OFFERED. I was going to look for wedding shoes and a dress for my shower. Totally didn’t even ASK him to come with me. So there we are, perusing the mall and I wanted to go here, here and here and he’s huffing and puffing, face in in his phone, checking the time…WHY DIDN’T YOU JUST STAY HOME?? I tried to encourage him to look at things that would interest him and he’s like, “Nah…” I don’t get it! I finally went into a store and as he’s walking and texting I said, “Just stay out here.” I think he got the hint but still!
So I decide recently to just go it alone from now on. Maybe not as fun, but definitely more efficient. Well, that never works in my favor b/c I just end up buying EVERYTHING and say to myself, “I’ll show FI/mom/friend and see which one they like better and return the other one.” That never happens, obviously. I’m my own worst enemy!!
And as for my girlfriends, my bff is in a different tax bracket and shops for/can afford high end things I don’t. The other one has a baby and it’s always a project for her to come out and go to the mall or wherever.
So, when you go on a spree or you’re shopping for something in particular, who do you take with you and why?

When Im visiting my parents, my mom! She loves to spoil me when she can.
But other than that.. Alone! I don’t like to be rushed, or judged for how much I’m spending or what I’m buying

I really dislike shopping with anyone else, mostly because I like to move at my own pace. Therefore if I’m interested I want to take my time looking, if I’m not interested I want to leave or go to a different section. So when shopping with others you have to be courteous of their pace and I don’t like to do that so I go alone. 🙂

BurlapnLace: Hahaha. I just laughed at your post. You have some polar opposite shoppers. I feel your pain OP… Think it’s best for you to shop with people who have similiar shopping styles, or alone.
I am not a shopper. I just go in to stores when I absolutely need something.
But if I’m searching for a dress (say for my bridal shower) I take my grandmom! She’s a bargain hunter AND a straight shooter. She’ll tell me what looks good or bad andwill find the item I want for the cheapest price available. Swear. She’s the best!

I hate shopping, so I like going with my husband since he hates shopping too. We always know what we’re looking for, go in just for that, and we’re done in just a few minutes. We joke that we’re like the Rainbow Six team of rescuing items lol.

When I’m just shopping for myself, I like to go alone so that I can make as many trips into the fitting room as needed 🙂
But when I was pregnant and needed maternity clothes, I always went shopping with my mom! She’s good at pushing me to try on things I would ordinarily have just walked right past, and oftentimes she’s totally right. I know what looks good on my body most of the time, but when I was pregnant I definitely needed an extra set of eyes. Plus she likes to spoil me and buy me stuff 🙂 and she prevents me from buying my pants too big, which I always seem to friggin do. (don’t want muffin top so I buy them a bit loose, then they stretch out as I wear them and bam, too big. every. goddamned. time.)

Although I do like shopping with my mom or my sisters, we don’t tend to do it that often since I’m a very different size from them and often when it comes time to shop for really nice or dressy outfits, we have to go to different stores and that just kind of dampens the fun a little bit. I used to enjoy shopping alone since I take a VERY long time, like to look at everything a thousand times over and all in all didn’t feel pressured. Somewhere along the way I lost that. I hate the way most clothed from department stores look on me, struggle with my looks and too long alone staring into a mirror at outfit after outfit that doesn’t flatter or fit leaves me pretty broken. And all my friends have moved away from me so I rarely get the opportunity to shop with them anymore (though when I do I love it!).
I actually adore clothes shopping with my SO. He’s got an eye for fashion, loves clothes and putting together outfits as much as I do, and he helps me find things that fit and flatter in such a way that I still feel beautiful and not some hideous cow. He’s extremely patient with me, let’s me go back and mull things over and is, I admit, a bit of a terrible influence in pushing me to get things I want, even if they’re a little expensive, just because they make me feel lovely.
That’s just clothes shopping of course. If we’re talking about STUFF, then I don’t care who I’m with or all by myself. That’s just fun with anybody!

i love that everyone else is saying alone too hahaha. i love LOVE taking my time, trying things on, AND rushing around, circling the mall a million times. i’m actually the worst to shop with, so i prefer to avoid putting the people i love in the annoying situation of spending time with me while i do it lol

Personally I LOVE shopping with my mom! We have a blast and love to encourage each other to try fun new styles. But my mom is seriously my best friend, so there is that.

I’m a lone shopper. I love shopping but I find shopping with other people to be awkward. I’m petite (short and skinny), so I probably try on 15-20 things for every 1 thing that I actually buy/that fits. I shop a lot of juniors departments and young adult type stores because they just fit my overall body type better. I do love helping other people shop, I worked retail for years.

In most cases I hate shopping for clothes. Nothing ever sits right on me and I end up feeling fat and depressed, even though I’m thin.
My Fiance is great to shop with though. He gives me honest opinions, knows my taste level, and I always end up happy with my purchases.
I try to never shop with my mum. She likes to show me everything she likes and thinks I will like, but we have completely different taste and I just can’t concentrate on what I am trying to look at, when she keeps saying “ooh, look at this, you’ll like this” every 30 seconds. I never buy anything when I go with mum.

I prefer to go by myself. I don’t like shopping with my husband because I feel like her hovers and is just waiting for me to hurry up which makes me anxious and I just give up and leave lol. Some of my friends take way too long to shop. I’m not an all day shopper. If I don’t see anything I like within the first 5-10 minutes, I’m out. My mom isn’t so bad but she lives about an hour from me so we don’t get together to shop very much.

my mom is my favorite shopping buddy. a lot of my clothes need to be altered, so i like having her there so she can look at at the clothes and tell me if it’s something she can fix before i buy it. but i also don’t mind shopping with my husband. he likes to help me pick out my clothes (thought his taste is questionable sometimes, lol) and he’s pretty patient.
swonderful: same here! i even buy little girls’ clothes sometimes, lol. everyone thinks it’s so easy for me to find clothes that fit, but it really isn’t. some days i hit the jackpot and some days it’s nothing but disappointment.
