We are (were) having our reception at a museum. Due to multi-billion dollar shortfall our state is now experiencing, our governor decided to shut down the state history museums as part of the budget cut.
therefore, our reception venue is no more. i am absolutely freaking out. the wedding is in 3.5 months. i have absolutely no idea what to do.

That’s awful!! Will you get your money/deposit back? Maybe some bees in your area can point you to some awesome venues…my suggestion is to start emailing other places asap! Good luck, and oh I hope you find a place you love!

How horrible! Are you in an area where there are many reception venues? Do you have family nearby with land enough for a tent? I would say now is the time to get creative – I would share your story with your other vendors and see if they have any suggestions.

Oh NO! Have you been in contact with anyone at the venue yet? What are they saying? Will they help affected brides find new venues?
You poor thing, I can’t believe you have to deal with this so close to your wedding. Take a deep breath…it will work out.

there aren’t really any brides that are having weddings there close to mine. it’s a unique venue that usually doesn’t do weddings, so i think i am the only one going through this!
i have not been in contact with the venue yet. they haven’t said anything to me! i found all of this out from THE NEWSPAPER! (can you believe that)???
right now they have 1200 of MY DOLLARS that i better get back….
it’s so hard to find a venue for 200 people in my area that is affordable!

I can’t believe you found out from the paper! Girl, you better get on the phone with them like yesterday to find out why the heck they haven’t gotten ahold of you and what they’re going to do to make it right.
Where are you? Maybe some bees can help!

Call them ASAP! I know for some nonprofits, when times get tough they have to shut down to the public but still are able to be open for private events….so just MAYBE all hope is not lost. Fingers Crossed!

OMG!! I’d be on the phone or heading over there as fast as I could!! Good luck! Let us know what happens. Maybe when you call other places, let them know what’s happening to see if you can get a discount for last minute arrangements. You still have time.

I’m so sorry! I hope another venue will help you out after this!

That’s awful! Sucks that the venue didn’t call you to tell you. Then again, news people get on that stuff pretty fast and the museum must have a LOT of administrative stuff to do. I’m sorry to say, but you’re just not their priority at the moment. Give them a call, I’m sure they’ll refund your deposit.
Also, please satisfy my curiosity about your state – Chicago has some of the awesomest museums I’ve been to, so please tell me that’s not where you are!

Call them now, ASAP, stat! Can you link to the article? Is it a temporary shutdown to save money, or a full-fledged chaining the doors closure?

Contact the news or any other form of media in your area. I remember reading this happening to a bride and the local news ran the story and another venue offered to do her reception for half price or something like that.

Try to get ahold of them ASAP but I agree with @Miss Tattoo about contacting local press. News stations love this type of story and may be able to pull some strings and work with some local venues/exchange for good publicity in order to get something worked out.

I agree with Miss Tattoo as welL! Where do you live – we can all start searching for you!
