ok – so we’ve decided to go to Myrtle Beach for our honeymoon – at this point we don’t have the $$ to actually plan anything just yet. so we are thinking about just up and leaving and driving down there and “go with the flow” – find somewhere to stay and then figure out what we’ll do once we’re down there. (i know we’ll have checks to cash and stuff from the day of the wedding itself)…
anyone else do this? sorta do their honeymoon “on the fly”?

We’re honeymoon twins! We’re also going to Myrtle Beach, only about a month before you! We’ve reserved our hotel, and we’re excited about that, and we have an idea of the activities that we want to do, but we aren’t planning on reserving any of those just yet. We don’t want to pay money for a scuba diving excursion only to wake up that morning and discover that we just want to stay in bed…waste of money, and then we’d feel guilty about doing what we feel like doing on our honeymoon! I’ve got lists of the top things that we want to do while we’re there…would you like me to PM you what they are? At least then you could have some information to arm yourself with before you head down there! I honestly don’t think that for most of the activities you NEED to reserve them in advance, at least not according to my research. And there are SO MANY hotels in Myrtle Beach, that you can definitely find one…but since you’re going during the high season, I would be nervous about going without a reservation at all. You know, you CAN make a reservation without actually paying for it ahead of time. It ends up costing a little more in the end, but if you go through the individual hotel websites, that option is almost always available to you. You just provide them with a credit card to hold the reservation and then pay after your stay. Anyway, I think you can do your honeymoon anyway you want to!! Let me know if all my research can be of any help to you at all. 🙂

I frequent Myrtle Beach quite a bit. I’m actually heading there in mid-May, my aunt has a vacation home by the beach. Actually, if you’re looking for a nice area to stay in – i recommend Surfside Beach. It’s 15 minutes south of Myrtle (to me, the actual strip of MB is very ick…). In surfside, they have hotels. However, you can also rent a condo on the beach for fairly cheap. I do also think that booking something in advance would be best.
As for things to do – Check out Broadway at the Beach. It’s a huge complex with shops, restaurants, and shows.

I’ve never done that but I’ve always wanted to. I enjoy spontaneity, in theory, I just can’t get it to happen! I’m a planner. I even plan to be spontaneous- not even kidding. I think its a good idea, I just hope there are nice rooms for you to book. The activities is the easy part.
