My Maid/Matron of Honor is getting me a bikini wax as a wedding present.  Lol.

I shave regularly but this will be my first wax.  What is the difference between French and Brazilian?

@MrsCarnival:  Haha, same here! I’ve always been curious but never worked up the courage.

@MrsConnick:  Was it awkward? Are you just totally bare down there while they’re doing it? It sounds uncomfortable, but I guess they’ve seen it all many times before!

I’ve had bikini waxes a couple times, and now I’m getting laser hair removal down there so I can just avoid the wax/razor forever.  Laser hair removal takes about a year of treatments, and I almost passed out from the pain during one session–but worth it to escape the agony of the wax and the razor bumps.  Anyways, a few tips for those of you getting waxed:

-Avoid caffeine (try to not consume any all day, it makes you more sensitive)

-Take 2-3 advil every 4 hours the day of your treatment, and make sure you take some about an hour before you get waxed.  Helps w/ pain/swelling.

-Eat a little something, have some water, etc.

-As a PP said, try to do it as far from your time of the month as possible

-Find a good waxer

-Start with a “regular” bikini wax, then maybe go for the French one next time (a little more taken off), then if you’re really bold and you could handle the first two, get the Brazilian

I’m probably going to get waxed (legs, underarms, bikini) before the honeymoon, but Fiance and I are afraid that I’ll break out really bad. My skin is super sensitive. 🙁

@vorpalette:  I also have very sensitive skin and worry about the same thing. If I were you, I’d do at least one wax beforehand as a trial run to see how your skin reacts!

*sigh*..nope, i wouldn’t do it, no matter what my Fiance says! I use a hair-pulling device  for my legs and it doesn’t hurt at all (as long as the hair is very short). When it’s beach time i reach the bikini area..but not too much!!!!!!

I’m getting Lazer hair removal at the moment but when I’m done I’m going to get the rest waxed for my wedding/ honeymoon. I wish they could lazer the lot off.

It’s sooooo dependent on the waxer! I’ve had one (first one) where I thought…”O that wasn’t so bad at all” and some subsequent ones were so unbelievably painful I was sore for days afterwards. So, in conclusion, getting a brazilian is not one of those things I recommend finding the best deal on, unless you happen to know the best deal is with a good waxer.

Getting my first ever wax tonight! Signed up for the full thing, but may have to temper it down to just a bikini. We’ll see.

As I left this morning, Fiance says, “Have fun tonight!”

Men are idiots sometimes.

His other comments have been, “I hope you really like it and want to keep doing it regularly.”

“I bet only the first yank hurts and then the endorphins kick in.”

I told him that he should wax his balls.

@emilikins:  Good Luck!    [email protected] him to wax himself!!! I am so using that one!!

I’m tempted to try, i’ve had my legs done before and peristed for three months. The pain did not reduce and the ingrowns were epic not to mention the spotty red skin for two days after. Oh and my legs never felt smooth so I went back to shaving Undecided FYI I would totally get laser done but it doesn’t work on my hair colour. grr.

However I get eyebrows and lips done and recently have started doing them myself… I might try a bikini test patch today *fingers crossed*

I went last week and was ready for my horror story, needless to say it never came!  I mean it hurt but by no means anything that was to bad.  I’d say go for it and if you relax it does hurt a lot less.

good for you.  it will hurt less and less each time.  i find that after the first couple of strips, i’m numb.  i usually get full leg, bikini and under arm together so i am almost completely numb.

stay out of the sun for the next few days.  you could break out.
