Depends on how long the skirt it. I have never worn nude hose ever, but I don’t wear anything shorter than a knee-length pencil skirt.  It also depends on the weather- maybe wear black hose instead?

I think nude ones look weird!

if you’re wearing a skirt or dress to any sort of interview, it looks more professional to wear the pantyhose with it.  just like how accessories can complete a look, pantyhose can “tidy” the look a bit and make you look more mature.

whoa now! sorry they were so rude, i think this is totally a generational thing. nude pantyhose is only really necessary for like a corporate-type job.

My personal rule is that if it’s a skirt suit or suit dress, pantyhose are required.  They really do look more professional and give you a clean/trim line, and since you’re interviewing with the orchestra, I am guessing that this will be a more proper/mature environment.  I’d wear them.

Well…it’s always better to be overdressed, right? Even if your previous interviewers were in sundresses, making the effort to look professional is never going to count against you. 🙂

Having said that, I had to wear pantyhose for my med school interviews and I hated every second of it.

So I guess really I’m not much of a help! lol sorry… 🙂

How conservative is that field?  I work in the legal field and it’s very conservative.  I ALWAYS wear pantyhose.  But, I think it’s acceptable not to always do it as long as you do it during interviews and on trial.  If you’re just in the office, you can get away sans hose.

My first job out of college had a dress code– women were required to wear skirts and pantyhose.

I’ve never heard of a dress code like that…well, not this century at least.  I doubt you woulnd’t be hired for a job simply b/c you didn’t wear pantyhose.

@musician32992:  I’m with you, I hardly EVER wear pantyhose, I hate the way it feels! I don’t see the point – it’s an unpaid summer internship, not an interview to be CEO of a corporation. Your outfit sounds great, I wouldn’t fret either way.

@musician32992:  What would you wear when you’re performing?  A full suit?  Just a dress?  I agree w/ PPs – if unsure, always overdress rather than underdress. Isn’t there a school counselor or something you could talk to or a professor that would guide you in the direction of how to dress for an interview?

Just curious – what do you dislike about hose?  I kind of love them lol.  Covers up my pasty legs!

Make sure your nails look nice and neat and professional!  You’d be surprised how many female interviewers look at that.

I guess it’s also different because it’s creative/artsy, I feel like you can get away with more.  The legal field is boring and dry – you can’t get away with just about anything.. lol
