- Wedding: April 2014
Hi Bees… just had to share.
I’ve been going back-and-forth between hiring a DOC or not. I am a very DIY bride (save the dates, invitations, escort cards, veil, garter, sash, etc.), and am blessed to have many friends/family members who are helping us out tremendously (mom is buying my wedding dress and baking my cake, friends’ band is DJing and providing live entertainment, other friend is a sous chef at a local country club and will let us buy food at-price, and yet another friend is doing our [professional] photography for free… not to mention the venue itself is a family friend’s private ranch at which his charity is run and he will take the money we give him not as a “rental fee,” but as a donation). So, I didn’t have many vendors to contend with… really just linens, glass/dish/flatware, and table/chair rentals, as well as a florist.
So, with the fact that I’ve got most of my vendors, am doing a lot myself, and that I still have a crap ton of time until wedding day, I honestly thought hiring a DOC would be a waste of (1) her time, and (2) my (limited) money.
But I figured there was no harm in asking for a quote, so I reached out to a couple local DOCs over the last few days. I have yet to hear from most of them. The ones I have heard from were waaaay overpriced. I was actually about to give up and just “hire” a friend to help pull together the whole shebang. And then I got an email from an amazing woman whose inital quote wasn’t terrible… then I mentioned my year of service with a volunteer group (was not looking for pity, but wanted to be realistic with her about my budget) and she gave me a 10% discount!
Aaaaand, she does flowers and rents linens and glassware!
Bees, I really, really hope this isn’t too good to be true. But I’ve honestly just felt myself get lighter and less stressed!
Any other stories? Good or (eek!) bad?
