So for those of you who don’t already know… I have two dresses. I have been trying to sell one of them, but today started thinking hey, I have two… maybe I will wear two? I got great deals on both of them, so I am really entertaining this idea… one for the ceremony and one for the reception? Has anyone else done this?
Okay, so anyway, I went into a shop today to visit dress #1 and was talking to the owner of the shop. See, my biggest pet peeve with #1 is I’m not that crazy about the halter neckline. To me, it looks heavy and clunky and does not “flow” with the organza skirt at all. So I asked her if the halter could be altered to a sleeveless sweatheart neckline (it comes with an organza shoulder wrap also)…. so I’m thinking if I can cut out the heavy neckline, soften up the top a bit more with the organza shrug, it could work. Now keep in mind that this is the lady that gave me a crazy discount to sell me the dress in the first place! And all she carries pretty much in plus sizes are halters or dresses with sleeves. As I’m talking, she proceeds to tell me (for about the umpteenth time since I’ve been dealing with her) that “alot of heavier girls like the plus size gowns with halter tops… you don’t see many sleeveless because there is so much there to try to keep up” ugh… I know this probably sounds awful to some of you, but I have been hearing this for about 2 months!!!
In retrospect I really blame this woman somewhat (although I accept responsibility) for my dress regret to begin with because of all things… this was the first shop I looked, and she really had me convinced that I HAD to get a halter (or dress with sleeves) because I was a “plus size gal”…. everytime she refers to this I just want to scream!!!!!!!!!!!! She is such a bully… she does not LISTEN to anything I say, only to her own agenda going on inside her head. As I said, I have a shoulder wrap to go with the dress BECAUSE I went in there and asked if she carried any boleros. That’s all I asked. She went on to convince me that I should get the shoulder wrap because it would cover my arms better… WTF??? I didn’t say jack about covering my arms…. I just happen to LIKE the look of a bolero. I don’t know what’s wrong with me… when I’m in there with her, she comes accross as so sweet and caring that I go right along with her BS, and then am pissed after I leave and I look back at everything. She’s probably about 80 years old, so I always try to be nice and respectful towards her, but honestly it gets me nowehere.
Today she asked me “are you not happy with your dress or what?” and I told her that with all the alterations that I am going to need, I do not have that much wrapped up in the dress to begin with, maybe I should just start over completely. She told me that I needed to quit looking on the internet and in magazines at other dresses. I really haven’t been but again, thanks for your commentary.
I really just want to get my damn dress and forget about her completely!!! But the seamstress she has working for her is one of the best… so if I want these alterations done, she’s the person to do them.
Or do I just cut my losses with dress #1 and focus on dress #2 which I really love and the bridal shop where I purchased that is always super nice and VERY accomodating!!
Thanks for listening….
