Monday….dress is still in Hamilton…we will see what today brings…
I ordered my dress from Lightinthebox and was very happy with both the dress and the shipping. It was driven to my house and the UPS driver called me on my cell and asked if I was home. I was so I’m not sure what would have happened if I hadn’t been home but I guess he had made some arrangements.
They tried to deliver, but did not leave it in my door due to the $71.17 in duties and taxes owing…seems like a lot for a $200 dress… I paid the extra charges via phone with DHL, so I can just sign the delivery notice and put the payment confirmation code so they should leave it at my door. Hopefully I will have a dress to try on tomorrow!! Ahh soo nervous!
I hear returning things to them is a nightmare, plus you have to pay to ship it and then the tarrif again when they ship the new one…but I’m hoping for the best…if not I have a great seamstress or I’ll just cut my losses…but I’m not thinking about that yet, because the dress is going to rock! and it’s going to be in my door tomorrow when I get home, fingers crossed, please, please, please, please!
It was at my door when I got home! I had to break into my house before I could try it on…but that’s another story:P It came in a box much smaler than I thought it would, and it shipped inside out, once I turned around I got to see the detial which was very nice but there were a lot of stray strands and fuzz around the embrodiery. I think the aplique was machien sewn but the beading is pretty and seems hand sewn, now the dress it self, it’s lovey, not perfect but lovely. it’s a bit too big, I was worried that the 18 would be too same if the sizes ran small so I ordered a 20, and it fits but the bust and waist really need to be taken in. Now to the pictures!!

Front view, the top cups of the sweethearts are just a bit off and there is an odd sew line where the ruching starts
The bottom detail
You can see the odd sew line better here, it comes up on the other cup, not a big deal I’d probably tuck it under.
Didn’t like how the back looked but yet again it is too big, I may see if my seamstress may be able to add cloth bottons. I will say one thing though..I hate this photo, I don’t mind being a plus size bride but I hate how my arms look here, I think i will need something about that over the next few months….
Another front view, I LOVE the bottom of the dress but the top really needs to be taken in
It was made of of heavier material than I was expecting, the under skirt is thick enough not to need a slip, the biggest issue besides size and the one thing on the bust, loose threads were the only other issue, but a pair of scissors and a steady hand, fixed that.
Dress shot with my shoes and facinator
Do I ever love my shoes!! Poetic Licence! They were one of my first purchases after the dress and I stil LOVE them!
The crystals are little hearts!
So all in all I am happy with my purchase, I don’t mind that it’s too big since it is better than too small, and it will cost less to have my seamstress take it in than it would be to pay to ship the dress back and then pay another tarrif on the new dress. So for the $202 plus $71 tariff, a $275 dress that will need maybe $50 for alterations is still a geat deal and cost about the quarter of the cost of the Maggie Soretto Isadora Ann dress, yet it gives me the same look.
Plus I think it will go very well with my Maggie Sorretto Brittney
So what do you think bees?
I think it looks good, i ordered from lightinthebox before and I liked the dress material but I didnt like how the dress fit on me so I was pleased with them
I got my veil(s) through Light In The Box. The story is here:
I, too, was mostly happy with how things turned out and with the quality of the product, although I did end up making a fairly major adjustment. Delighted with the end product, though!
Oh wow, that dress is SO pretty! It goes so well with your other dress.
I’m glad you’re happy with it. I too was going to order a dress through them, but I actually chickened out after seeing so many horrible reviews (it was for my ACTUAL dress). I ended up going with Dressilyme (Chinese company – like LightInTheBox) – even after every single person I know told me I was a fool to take a chance like that. BUT, I had a very happy ending. The day I got my dress I put it on and proceeded to spend 45 minutes standing in front of the mirror and just staring (there might have been a little hip-moving to watch it swish back and forth too!) at myself in it. The best thing about it though was that I had it made to my measurements and it fit LIKE A GLOVE. It would be nice if there were more people willing to post their GOOD experiences, because the stress of waiting to know is almost not worth it.
You should update this again once you’ve had it taken in….I’d love to see the final look!!! Congratulations on being willing to take a chance – and being happy with the results. It makes me feel really warm and tingly inside knowing I only paid $178 (CAD) for my dress, plus the $75 tariff from DHL. I’ll be posting pics after the wedding.
The detail on the bottom is soooo pretty. You are going to look amazing! And I love your shoes too!
Thank you ladies I will post again once it’s sized down, calling the seamstress today!:P
Appointment booked for next Saturday!
After reading some of the posts at The Wedding Bee, and seeing that the wedding is still 6 months away and the dress I liked was very affordable, I decided to take the risk and order it. In my mind i am already assuming it will be too small, too big, defective or too horrible, so i won’t get disappointed if the dress is not what it seems. I only I ordered it half an hour ago, and I thought it would be interesting to register here and post my experience, to share with you all.
I will give you the details of the dress:
That is the dress, I ordered a size 10 in white. By my measurements I would probably be closer to an 8, but some comments said this dress ran a bit small, so i decided to go for 10 (after all, it is easier to fix a dress that is too big than fixing a small one). I am having a beach wedding and, even though I am not in a tight budget, I refuse to buy something too ostentatious, and wedding dresses here in NZ are a minimum of $1000… definitely not what i want to spend on a dress which I will be wearing for a day! The ceremony is going to be very simple, with a barbeque afterwards, so I wanted a simple dress which matched our simple lifestyles. That said, I do not want a horrible quality one.
I ordered the dress on July 25th 2012 and chose expedited shipping. Dress was $89.99 and shipping about $30. I received the confirmation immediately in my e-mail, with no extra charges. New Zealand only pays custom tax on orders over $400, so i am not expecting to be stung with any extra fees… however, after some stories i have read, I will be prepared.
If there is any problem with the dress, I will try to get a refund, but I have already gambled that money and I am prepared to lose it… after all, some times you win, some times you lose :). Not a huge amount of money anyway, and if the dress is actually as nice as it looks, it will have been money well spent. If not, it will serve as an example to other prospective customers!
I will keep reading here and letting you know how things go. I am happy to post photos of the dres when it arrives, and give you my impression about how similar it is to the one on the website.
Great to be part of this community, I will now go and have a look at the rest of the forum to get some tips for my wedding.
Hugs to all!
