I think every person has different reasons. I’m not sure why it matters, as long as everyone has beautiful rings that they love.

I received a diamond but I argued really hard for a sapphire. I’ve just always loved the color of an expensive sapphire more than the sparkle of a diamond. If its good enough for the majority of British royalty its good enough for me. But my boyfriend thought diamonds were more traditional (and they may be in the US) so we compromised and got a diamond center stone with sapphire accents. For our 5th anniversary I’m going to have a 3 stone sapphire ring made similar to the one below. It’s amazing!

Probably because some people didn’t want a diamond…

If I had a chance to go back and pick my ring all over again I’d pick something other than a diamond. For me personally because yes it is a price issue and you get what you want and more at an amazing value! For instance:

A .5 round stone diamond ring costs lets say $3000, but with a moissanite ring with the same specs or larger, 1 carat center stone will go for half that price, $1500.

And plus since diamonds are so common these days in the jewelry industry some customers just want to go for something different, maybe to find their birth stone :)) sapphire, amethyst, emerald, moissy, what not. Its what your preference is really. (Don’t forget the blood diamond issue-young Africans being killed for these diamonds, struggling, trying to make a living).

There plenty of other reasons why….just named a few hope this helps. :)))

Welcome! Definitely money was a factor. Fiance and I were not interested in paying 2½ times the price of my actual ering in order to get a diamond ring. Besides the only cut I really love is Crown of light cut, only sold by Diamonds Intl. And it is 3 times the price of my right hand ring. I did my research, and concluded that moissanites and diamonds have a similar chemistry, it’s colorless and it’s as also a forever gem and it’s beautiful. So that was enough for me. It took some time to convince Fiance, but he made peace with it afterwards. And it feels so good to use all that money in something else though!
