While I understand de beers marketing etc, diamonds are not worthless. Things are worth what people are willing to pay for them. Really, that’s the only value something has: the amount someone will pay. People will pay over the odds for diamonds (new, I know they don’t hold value so well. ..) so they are worth a lot…

howdoiknow: In 1999, De Beers chairman Nicky Oppenheimer confessed, “Diamonds are intrinsically worthless, except for the deep psychological need they fill.” They may be worthless unless you give them worth. I do enjoy the sparkle of diamonds they just don’t have the worth to me. So diamonds are as valuable or as worthless as you decide.

Because diamonds are the devil and diamond lookalikes are for the enlightened, non-brainwashed, unique science enthusiast. Didn’t ya know?

It’s like when you’re an animal rights activist going against the horrors of the fur trade – the natural thing to do is to wear convincing faux fur every single day of your life.

howdoiknow: sorry for not tagging you sooner! Also true that things are worth what people are willing to pay for them.

The debate of diamonds being worthless or with worth is like the glass being half empty or half full! All depends on your perspective

sumshine.dawn:  Exactly! My ring was worth what I paid for it because that’s the going rate. Probably worth very little in reality.

Btw: your ring is STUNNING. The size, shape, style, colour. Just beautiful. I haven’t seen another with that colour.

I think everyone should have jewellery they adore, I don’t think the stone whatever it is should dictate your worth.  I have lots of diamonds rings, bracelets, earnings, necklaces etc etc ….. Do they make me a better woman, I think not.  Have what you love end of discussion.
