Hi bees! I haven’t been active here in a while but my Fiance and I are still together and happy, even though we ended up having a pretty long engagement and won’t have our wedding until May 2014 🙂
Anyway, over the weekend my Fiance and I visited my parents and my mom gave me a ring that was her mother’s before hers and that she was given when she was about my age. It’s an emerald cut diamond and I think it’s beautiful, but I have no idea what its four C’s might be. Since it’s so old, all the information we might have had about it (when it was made, by whom, everything) has been lost. It was a very sweet and thoughtful gift, and I’ll probably use it as my something old at my wedding as a way to honor my mom and grandmother.
Until then, here are some pictures of it on my size 7.5 finger – does anybody have any idea what the carat size might be? I don’t know how to judge finger-coverage vs. carat size, so any help would be much appreciated. It’s just an iPhone picture from my bathroom, so the lighting probably makes the color and clarity hard to determine – but can anyone maybe tell approximately how big this diamond is? Thanks so much!

Emerald is hard to guess for me.. They face up small. 1.25?

If you get it appraised you’ll learn all that – it would be a good idea to do that and insure it since it is a family heirloom.

@isabellej18: It looks like a fair size, maybe 1 carat? It’s a beautiful piece.

@abirdword: I’m planning to get it appraised soon, but I just got the ring this weekend and wanted to see if anybody could eyeball it before I get a chance to hear from a jeweler!

I’d say it’s around a carat. Maybe 1 – 1.25? Very beautiful!

That is a gorgeous ring. One id wear as my engagement instead of RHR.

wow…that’s stunning!! I would say it’s AT LEAST a carat, but it could be bigger. Congrats on such a lovely gift!!

I guess between 1.25-1.50. 🙂 Keep us updated!

@isabellej18: You lucky ducky! Go get it appraised! But I’d say it’s at least a carat.

I’d say 1.25-1.5- when I tried on emeralds, they did face up small. Also, it’s hard to tell with the lighting, but I’d say the color could be in the K-L-M range?

I would also say 1-1.25, it’s a gorgeous ring!
