I just sent out my invitations. I am all wound up now and wondering when you all started hearing back from people after you sent your invites out? Was it soon? Did people start RSVPing right away? I have learned from other posts on this site that some people wait to respond and then have to be chased down, but what do you think is the usual turnaround time for responses? Thanks!

@coffeeloverbee: i had some initial rsvps back within a week but of course the majority of them came in the last 2 weeks before the respond date. typical.

@coffeeloverbee: I got my first few the week after we sent them out. However we are two weeks away from the deadline and are still missing about 50%. For me they came a few at a time, then a few days later one or two, etc…

@coffeeloverbee: I think much depends on when your RSVP date is. We had a 3 week window, and the first RSVP response arrived very quickly (I really don’t know how that even happened. Mailed them on a Thursday, guests started to receive them on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday had no mail service, and we got a response in the mial on Tuesday).
Depending on my relationship to the couple, I probably would not be able to confirm my attendance at a wedding in January in October. I sometimes work weekends, we like to travel, and there are certain out of town events that my husband needs to attend because of work.
Of course, if it was my niece, or my best friend, I wouldn’t need an invite to know when it was, and the relationship is significant enough that I would go out of my way not to miss it, but if it was one of our friends from the yacht club, or another one of our social circles, I probably wouldn’t have an answer until december.

Thanks! I am super excited! The respond by date is in mid November, so there is a lot of time, however this will be a destination wedding for most of the guests so I know many of them have already made plans to attend.

We got like 3 RSVPs back in the first week!

It comes in waves, or at least it did for us. The first week or two we had a TON come back. Then all of a sudden we would get one here, one there. The last week until the deadline we had a ton come in again. Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get a bunch right off the bat though. People are probably just taking time to plan before responding.

We got about 50% back within 1-3 days of sending them out. I sent them out 6 weeks before the RSVP date and had maybe 5 guests not respond prior to 2 weeks out.

I had a few back within a few days. Basically enough time for the invites to get to them, and then they had them back in the mail to me the next day. That was just a few people though, the rest came a bit slower.

- Wedding: August 2013 - Brookfield Zoo
We had several RSVPs come back after just a few days, and then they all slowly trickled in. Definitely had a few people wait until the last minute (at which point we were gently prodding to find out attendance) or not send anything back at all and just tell us.

I think everyone gets a little spurt within a week or two. Then it depends on your crowd. Right now we are about 2 weeks out from our RSVP deadline and we have 75% back. So I am pretty happy with that. I know friends that had more than 1/2 outstanding and had to make a lot of calls. I also expect several of the outliers to be no RSVPs, so I think they felt bad and are waiting till the end.
Sadly, a lot of people even if they know they will attend or not attend think, “well I have plenty of time to reply”. Either way, I am sure you will get some pretty quickly after sending them, which is a lot of fun!
