We just finished both courses.  The first one was actually pretty fun, listening to the couple and filling out the worksheets and such.  We learned some pretty interesting things about each other.  I found the second one to be pretty dull.  I think it was a combination of the presenter and the material.

we did the engaged encounter weekend in NY.  it was kind of brutal (Loooonnnngggg and boring).  BUT, it’s really what you make of it and I know that other couples there really enjoyed it so have a good time.  Sounds like you’re not doing the overnight thing, so that might be a completely different experience than i had.  Good Luck!!

We didn’t do ours in NY, but I found that the 2 weekends had an overall positive effect. Even though we had talked about many of the issues they brought up, it was nice to sort of be forced into spending some time talking about things in depth. Our PreCana was structured in that we listened to a speaker for about an hour and a half and then we had a half an hour to go off on our own and talk about questions in a book they provided. You will only get out as much as you will put in.

@ mrtnza – where are you doing yours? We signed up for the 4 week course, every Thursday in June. We’re doing it with friends of ours to make it a little more fun.

@ hotchild – you had to take 2 courses? ??

@Dancy: I mean two classes, I guess.  We went two Saturdays from 10-4.  We went once in West Harlem (SUCH A TREK) and then once on the UES.

Ours was one lonnng 8 hour day, I wish I had the option to break it up into sessions! I think it would have been alot better; I was so drained by the end of ours because we just sat there listening for almost the entire time! We did one hands-on activity on values.

The only complaint I had was the mini-lecture about natural birth control and the lecture on how if you don’t do a full mass ceremony than it really isn’t a true ceremony. Just  take everything with a grain of salt!
