I found out I was pregnant 4 days before my trip to China with my husband.  Doctor e-mailed me my test results telling me my progesterone level was on the low side and I had to get a progesterone supplement in China.  Of course it was something that wasn’t sold in the U.S. but I checked with her and she said it was OK (was difficult with our itinerary and also the time difference to find a time to call her).

Also, the day after we landed in China, we left on a pre-planned sidetrip to a nature preserve near the Tibetan Plateau.  Altitudes there varied from 1.5 – 3.5 miles above sea level and at the highest point I did get a bit dizzy from altitude sickness.

But now I’m a day shy of 15 weeks and doing fine!

I traveled a ton during my first trimester, everything was fine. My morning sickness didn’t kick in until 9 weeks so it wasn’t bad early on. I just made sure to always have water and something to snack on at all times.

Congratulations!  I think you should be fine with travelling!  I’m going blank on the name but there are these ginger candy chew things that might be a good option for helping with any nausuea/possible morning sickness, too.

As for telling your husband — obviously you know him best!  I think, under similar circumstances, my husband would be a little bummed I didn’t tell him over the phone as soon as possible.  But if you think knowing could put him in danger – you’re definitely right to wait!  I think if you are able to wait until he’s back, it will be super special!  Since you have time, you could plan something really cute and cheesy for telling him.  If you just google ideas, you’ll find more than you could think!

nstrans1 :  girl, I hear you! The whole thing is very surreal and shocking!! I always feel so terrible admitting this, but until about week 16 or so, I was way more terrified than excited. I just had no idea what I was doing, what was going to happen, how we were going to do this, etc. but as the weeks went on, I started getting more and more excited and realizing that this is a big life event but I’ve got time to prepare for it and make a plan.  I’m still terrified at 32 weeks, but like 10% terrified and 90% excited!!!

Congratulations again and definitely ask about some headache meds and nausea meds if you think that might be something you’ll suffer from.  I get headaches all the time, but the 2 reg strength tynenol you are allowed to take while preg didn’t do anything to relieve it. I finally broke down and called the doctor because I had had a nonstop headache for a week, and she gave me some pregnancy safe meds that wiped it out completely. Seriously made such a difference. So if you need something or want something, ask! Especially because you’ll be traveling!!!

nstrans1 :  I also always recommend to wear knee height compression socks to anyone who is flying or driving a long time ๐Ÿ™‚ and bring some hard candy to suck on on the plane (helps with poping ears and nausea) and drink ginger ale ๐Ÿ™‚
