I bet the water would stain an open toe shoe.  What about laying down a paper towel around the water baggie?

Taking the shoes to a shoe repairman would accomplish the same thing but without the risk of water leaking all over your shoes. Also if you only need one spot stretched (instead of the whole opening of the shoe), a shoe repairman can use a bunion stretcher. Also, check with the retailer who sold you the shoes; they may also have the tools to stretch them properly. (I sell shoes and I do this all the time).

I’m glad the water worked for you!

@Goodatlove:  I had trouble with my shoes fitting for my wedding, and did take them to a professional shoe repairman.  He put them through the stretching process twice and I couldn’t feel a difference.  Maybe because they were satin?

I love this idea- it’s hilarious yet functional at the same time!! I’m so glad that worked for you and I will have to try it!!
