Yes, you’re being paranoid/obsessed.

Everything’s going to work out, don’t read into everything.  Just enjoy your relationship.  TRUST ME.

I hate to say this but same thing happened with our debit card and it was not a large purchase at all. HOWEVER! You never know!

My card was flagged once for a $1.00 purchase and return (and rightfully so, my card number was stolen).  Don’t read too much into it or you’ll drive yourself crazy!

my card was blocked for this reason, and the charge was under $20

If you are in Canada, it was probably Royal Bank card. I have one too and it was blocked off due to some unknown reason. The bank gave me a song and a dance about it but I don’t believe what they said. They said I used it at a suspicious location but I hadn’t used it at all. I payed a phone bill ONLINE and that was it. (Typical phone bill too. Nothing too high/low.) What I think really happened is that there was a threat to their system so they shutdown the server and closed out the accounts on there.

Do not read into everything please. That’s a surefire way to set yourself up for disappointments. I am sure the engagement will happen soon if you are planning a June wedding. So don’t hurt yourself over it!

I was a bookkeeper at my old job and was responsible for our debit card fraud prevention program. Typically it’s the oddness of the purchase location rather than the amount that will set off the bank’s system. Especially if it’s an out of the blue, one time occurance purchase outside the users typical zone of use (ie – I always make purchases in Maryland but if a charge in Texas shows up, even if it’s for $1, it might lock up my card).

I would take your friend’s and all the other ladies’ advice and don’t worry about it. It’s most likely nothing. I would be a hypocrite if I said it was crazy to watch for purchases because I’ve absolutely been guilty of it. But I would also hope that my guy would purchase a ring from a reputable establishment and not something that is flagged as “suspicious” by Visa or any other card company. 🙂
