A good friend of one of my bridesmaids is going to do our wedding pictures FOR FREE. Would it be rude to ask for an engagement session? I would like to get used to posing in front of her and what not. neither of us really like getting our pictures taken so I was thinking it would be a good idea to do a test run basically.

It would be nice if you could give her a little something for doing an engagement session, especially since she’s shooting your wedding free of charge–that’s a ton of work for both sessions, plus editing! You won’t know until you ask, though.

+1 to Mrs. Grape. Also, it’s DEFINITELY a good idea to do a test run in this situation, since she is probably really new… I wouldn’t have her shoot the wedding without it.

I do plan on giving her some kind of compensation even though she said she would do it for free. I am not sure of her experience level but she did my friends prom pictures and they were beautiful!

Make sure you get a contract. I can not stress enough the importance of getting everything in writing especially if its a friend (or friend of a friend) vendor. Even if everything is “free” you need in writing what you are expecting of her and what she is promising to deliver and when.
As for the engagement session you could just offer to pay a little something in exchange for it. But if she offers to do it for free, make sure you give her a little something after the wedding.
