Do you not have the original certificate that you can make a copy of?

saccarabird :  oh I know. The South African govt is so hard to work with. I don’t see why the us govt won’t accept the unabridged version. I’ve submitted affidavits in lieu of birth certificates for clients during their green card processing. Can you see if that’s an option? Typically your parents would provide an affidavit and get it signed and notarized.

Hi! How have you guys come along now? Have you got your original BC?

I just signed up to weddingbee today in the hopes of finding some help in regards to the K1. I am South African born and have been living in New Zealand for 9.5 years now. Fiance is American in illinois. I was 17 when we left South Africa so I need to get police clearances for SA for the interview stage as well. I am so glad that I read this post as I was too planning on using the unabridged BC, but I do have my original little BC card from home affairs, I think that is what you are refferring to. A friend of my mother has been waiting over 6 months for her orginal BC, everything they do there is so slow!

We are sending our i129F away next week and hoping the process doesn’t drag for us as we are so sick of the distance now.

I am not sure where to have the wedding, SA or USA. It won’t be NZ as apart from my parents and brother we don’t have other family here.

If you don’t mind me asking, how much has this all cost you so far? (the k1 stuff)

There’s a website called visajourney.com that’s a great resource for all intended immigrants. I’m sure they can help you with something related to this. I’m going through K1 also and the people on there have been invaluable. (My fiancé lives in Morocco)
