@mtbikelover:  I went to one a few years ago. It was not good. The bride sang and maybe 2 other people- like her mom’s friends- and it was weird. It disrupted the flow- everyone would clear off the dancer floor. I would not recommend.

I don’t like that she wants to decide what to have at your wedding. I would thank her for her opinion and forget about it!!!!!

We hired a DJ with Karoke for my stepfather’s birthday and nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooo one used it except the DJ. She sang one song!!!!

I wouldn’t pesonally, and since you said you don’t like it…then I DEFINITELY wouldn’t be doing it.

Tell her you can go to sing karaoke for your bachlorette party if she insisits on serenading you with a special song.

You know, DH and I talked about having karaoke at our reception – and we threw that out the window real fast. There’s so much going on, you wouldn’t have time for people to get into it. Not only that, but you don’t want to ruin your reception memories with really bad singing 😉 I’d say, if your FI wants to do something like that, do it the night before or something. Invite people out to a karaoke bar. That’s what we did – we had our rehearsal, then our ‘rehearsal dinner’ was food held at a karaoke bar that we frequent, and we all got to sing and have a blast together. 🙂

@mtbikelover:  Wait she wants to at YOUR wedding or at hers? If hers, whatever. If yours, you are not obligated to take anyone’s suggestions. Depending on your relationship, I am not sure why “I really detest Karaoke” is a bad thing to say. It’s not against her, jsut your like or dislike. The same as saying “I hate the color blue”.

I’d tell her a polite but emphatic NO.  Karaoke is fine at a wedding reception if a couple met a karaoke bar and they go every week with friends, it represents them and their crowd would be into it.  Most of the time it’s an awkward and painful proposition to have karaoke at a wedding.  If she likes it, she can have it at her daughter’s wedding, but not yours!
