Yep, I’m gonna rant.
I had a girls day this past Saturday with my daughters. We had lunch, went to the mall and were browsing through stores when we came upon Kay Jewelers. Now I’ve been eyeing this enhancer they have online and wanted to see if they had it in the store so I could see what it looked like in person and more importantly–how it looked paired with my e-ring! We go into the store (which wasn’t that busy) and waiting at least 15 minutes to be helped (I had already found the ring in the showcase so we were just standing there). Anyway, an associate comes over to help and I get the ring and put my ering inside it and put it on my finger and OH MY GOD IT”S PERFECT! I pull out my iPhone to snap a pic to show my fiance and she says “oh no, you can’t take a picture”. WTF?! I explained I just wanted to show it to my fiance and she tells me it’s against store policy. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard!! What am I gonna do with a picture!? All I can say is it’s against MY policy now to give them $2499 for the ring, I’ll buy it somewhere else!!! At least I know that the style I’ve been wanting looks perfect with my ring, now I just have to find it elsewhere. End rant. 🙂 Hope y’all had a great weekend!!!

WTF Kay Jewelers is the shadiest dumbest business. I have heard horror story after horror story about them, not to mention had one of my own. Take your money elsewhere 🙂

Oh, please. Tiffany’s and DeBeers lets you take photos, but I guess Kay’s is too high class for that? They need to get over themselves and their shitty customer service.

RedheadMeggs: A lot of stores have policies like this. Even bridal shops.
They can have whatever policy they want as long as it’s not discriminatory.
That being said, I hate chain jewelry (and other retail) stores in general, so I never even consider shopping at the,

I have seen several horror stories about Kay here on this site, so maybe this was a blessing in disguise!

msformaldehyde: For sure. Plus their markup is REDICULOUS. We’re going to go to the Navy Exchange in Jacksonville where my fiance & dad went to buy my e-ring and we’ll get more for our money there anyway!! 🙂

RedheadMeggs: Plus they had a picture on their website so why are they worried about pictures?? Weird!! Yes, buy it elsewhere.

RedheadMeggs: Any jeweler store that won’t let you take a picture– or any bridal store that won’t let you take picture– they are assholes.
I don’t know if they are afraid you are going to have it made elsewhere for less, or what– but IMO, if they are offering a “fair” price (meaning it might not be the lowest price you’ll ever find, but it’s an actual fair price for the item)– and they offer good customer service, they shouldn’t be afraid to let someone take a picture.
There are so many reasons people might want to take a picture- besides just wanting to– a mom lives far away and a daughter wants her mom’s opinion on a dress, a FI/husband/SO is stationed far away and you want his opinion on a ring you’ve chosen….
Any place that won’t let me take a picture of myself wearing my potential thousands of dollars purchase can take a hike– thankfully, I never ran into that. I didn’t ask to take a picture everywhere I went, but the two times it counted, both the jeweler and the bridal store (which was just David’s)– allowed many photos.

I don’t really thing that this is uncommon, and I know you may not like it, but it is their policy. As someone else said, even most bridal salons will not let you take pictures, let alone tell you the designer of the dress! I personally really like Kay Jewlers and have had great experiences there. You may not like their policy, but they are not the only ones with policies like that.

RedheadMeggs: Yes it is! Plus most of there pre set rings are crazy low clarity and you could get way more bang for your buck elsewhere!

I don’t think this is really that uncommon…

It makes no sense to not be able to take pictures when they offer the products/specs of things ONLINE. That’s just them being snooty and ridiculous.

WTF, that’s such a lie. We got my fiance’s ring from Kay. In the process of picking out his ring (and getting it resized twice) I tried on every wedding band in the store and took tons of pictures of all of them. No one ever said a word. In fact they pulled out a black velet thing so I could get better shots. Don’t rule it out yet if you really love the ring, maybe try another associate or another store.

My rings are from kay..but not allowed to take pictures? Thats ridiculous! Id definitely go elsewhere! I do not like kays either that being said we simply purchased my neil lane set from them and I take it to a local jeweler for any maintenance necessary! I dont trust them at all

My rings are from Kays as well, but I have had all good from them. My now husband wanted to go with a store like them so that I can get service where ever we are. they have repaired my ring wonderfully when it had an issue. That is weird that the sales woman would not let pictures, we took tons when we were shopping there for wedding rings. I hope you get exactly what you want! Post pictures!
