I spoke to someone today from one of our favorite restaurants, and discovered that not only are they willing to cater, they are also by far the cheapest option! (Like, $24pp including delivery and 20% gratuity…in San Francisco!)
However, when I mentioned some specific entrees I was interested in, I was told to consider something else that will be good at room temperature “because it will get cold during delivery.” The restaurant is about 5 miles from the venue. How concerned should I be about this?
The venue has a kitchen onsite, but since the restaurant would only be dropping off the food, there is no catering staff so we would have to ask a friend (or friends…or hire someone) to deal with putting 100 entrees in the oven if we need to heat them up. (By the way, how do we get these meals from paper or aluminum or whatever boxes to being plated? Ask friend(s)? Set it out like a buffet with only two options? Serve with paper plates??) Or do we ask it to be delivered right when we plan to eat and hope for the best?
Has anyone dealt with this or have any advice? Am I going to end up spending more than I would with a caterer by having to come up with dish and tablecloth rentals and hiring someone to make it all work?
