I just got off the phone with the owner of the bridal shop I got my dress from and she said that Kenneth Pool himself called her with a design suggestion for my dress – WHAT?!
When I bought my dress, the belt on the sample looked a little low, so we decided to have it raised an inch so it didn’t make me look awkward. Apparently when the designer saw this, he thought it would be cool to bring it up in the front, but have it taper back down 1 inch (to where it is normally). I’m having a hard time visualizing what that’ll look like, but hell, if he called about it and seems to think it’ll look awesome, who am I to say no?
Anyone else have this happen with their designer?
This is my dress (sample 4 sizes too big)

@lightmist: I think so! I wish I had a picture of what it’d look like (I’m such a visual person) but I think it should look pretty *fingers crossed*

It sounds like it would look great… if I’m imagining it correctly. So basically, the back of the belt will stay where it is, and the front will move up a little bit (1inch)?
It wlll probably save you some $$$ for the alterations as well, since they won’t have to mess with the buttons in the back.

I love your dress as is, but if KP is going to design something different, you are a lucky lady.

@kat912: I think it will look gorgeous! Sofiekitty’s gown did the “v” taper in the back and it looked amazing

That’s awesome. But I don’t think Kenneth Pool designs those gowns. The label is owned by Amsale. They were designed by Austin Scarlett until 2009, but I think Amsale is the designer of that collection now.

@MrsTVLover: Yep! You’re right. My dress is Victor Harper Couture, which is a label Kenneth Pool started.

It sounds like its going to be stunning! How awsome of him to take that much pride in his work!
I tried on this ulla maija that does something similar, it was sooooo flattering.

@kat912: Your dress is simply gorgeous and rather regal – I love the buttons on the back going all the way down your skirt – and that is so cool that the designer himself has reached out and expressed an interest in wanting to make your gown even better.
I hope you post pics after the alterations because I would to see it.
My wedding gown will be designed and made by Michi Calica, a bridal designer in the Philippines. I’ve only communicated with her via Skype and she is so lovely. I actually thought that I would have to forgo having a dress made by her because of budget constraints, but it turned out that she loved my ideas and our theme because they are do different from the norm in the Philippines, that she’s willing to work with us even with our budget.

Your gown is gorgeous!! I love it! The fabric looks so luxurious!
I had a somewhat similar experience in that I actually met the designer of my gown at a trunk show at the bridal salon, and the salon owner asked him to do a sketch of my dress. 🙂
