Even though we’re living in BG, my fiance and I looked at Louisville venues because it’s a more central location for our families. Louisville venues are PRICEY! We finally booked Gardencourt at the Louisville Seminary. I fell in love the first time we visited, and we decided to book it that day. It was a cheaper option than other venues, with a GORGEOUS formal garden and fantastic rooms in the 1906 mansion (almost everything is original!). You have to use their caterer, The Upper Crust, but they do allow you to purchase your own alcohol–their website says otherwise because they only recently ammended their alcohol policy.

We also looked at the Henry Clay, the Seelbach, My Old Kentucky Home, the Mellwood Arts Center, and a couple of state parks.

In hindsight, I wish we’d looked at some places in the Lexington area. I’m not as familiar with it, but the area is so pretty.

Buffalo Trace and Berry Hill mansion. I looked at the Cardome center in Georgetown and its nice but I’d like to find something in Frankfort ’cause that’s where we live.

I’ve not talked to BT, but a coworker was going to use them for her wedding and I work right next door so I could run over there on a break. The main thing for us is to be able to have ceremony and reception inside. We’ll do some photos outdoors but I don’t want to have to deal with weather or bugs etc etc.

I haven’t looked at spindletop; will add it to the list tho.

@Beautiful Bluegrass:

Thanks for the info!  I thought I had some info on it, but I can’t seem to find it.  I don’t think the coordinator is available on the weekends.  Now would def be the time to see it though.  With the leaves changing colors, it’s beautiful!

We visited Buffalo Trace but decided it really wasn’t our style.

Spindletop is gorgeous, and I’ve been to excellent weddings there. I also love weddings at Griffin Gate in front of the mansion.

I’ve been to some events at the Carrick House, though not a wedding, and it’s really pretty, but parking is a bitch. That goes for the Boone Center, as well.

I got married in Louisville so I don’t know all of the details of those venues, but I have been to a wedding at Buffalo Trace. I really loved it. We got to go on a tour of the facility while we were waiting on the wedding party to finish pictures. I’m pretty sure all of the guests really enjoyed it.

@Beautiful Bluegrass:  I love the mansion at My Old Kentucky Home, but I wasn’t as impressed with their reception space. It’s close to my parents’ house, so we could always get ready at home, but I told my fiance if we got married at a historic home, I wanted to be able to have access to the actual house.

We’re getting married in the rose garden; I think they said it could seat up to 600. It has an absolutely perfect set-up for a ceremony, and leads to the front lawn/porch, where we’re having our cocktail hour before dinner in the house. Our rain plan is to have our ceremony on the stairwell (the hallway can accomodate 150+ standing room), or in the larger back room.

There’s also a really pretty chapel on the campus that can be rented for like, $700. We didn’t think it was worth it just to have a backup since we’re having less than 150 guests.

The only thing I think a lot of people don’t like about Gardencourt is that the guests do have to sit in separate rooms–but it’s a very open layout. It works for us because we can have our dance party in the larger back room while (let’s be honest) older guests can talk and relax in the front rooms.

I just wanted to second Berry Hill and Spindletop.  I’ve been to weddings at both, and they were fabulous.
