I’ve gotten the Brazillion Straightening Process done to my hair a few times and LOVED it. It makes your hair SO smooth and it didn’t seem to ruin my hair at ALL, but actually help make it healthier. I’ve never had hair so smooth.
But, the place I go to get my hair colored has the Keratin Straightening Process & I was wondering for those ladies who have had this straightener done, does it keep your hair straight for a while? Does it smooth it down? Or does it go back to your natural state of hair within a couple of weeks?
Just trying to weigh out the pro’s and con’s. Thank you!!

I’ve heard nothing but good things about the Brazilian. The girl who did my hair mentioned how she lost a lot of money on clients doing the Keratin, it didn’t work and she had to refund a lot of money and the company said see ya later, never replaced her product for her. So after hearing that, I hope to one day be able to try the Brazalian, once I land a job. My friends have also had it and rave about it.

@Ladyjenn: I’m so glad you commented on this. I’ve had the Brazillion before and LOVED.IT.!! I just haven’t had the Keratin so I wanted to hear a little bit about it. I really appreciate the comment!

I’ve heard that it contains formaldehyde and there are questions about how safe it is over time when you wash your hair – but I haven’t actually researched it myself, so take that with a grain of salt.

@lilyfaith: I did know that it contained formaldehyde, and it’s been put on my hair. It actually made my hair more shiny and pretty. I got the Brazillion with formaldehyde in it twice, and once with it without formaldehyde and the once time I did it without formaldehyde, it didn’t turn out as pretty.
But, you’re right…it could do a lot of damage later to your hair, that is definitely something to consider. Thank you for your input!

I will tell you that Keratin is not a treatment for straightening, it’s for healthier hair. It should reduce frizz and straighten somewhat as a happy side effect. But the point is healthier hair. I think it lasts about 3-6 months ish (I’m trying to remember what they told me at my salon) but I know the condition of your hair improves more with each time you do it.
Anyway, I’ve never done it. I can’t stand to have that three day period of not washing or even pulling it back because my hair is fine and gets plastered to my skull. Very unattractive. Plus there isn’t a treatment in the universe that will actually straighten my hair. And if there were, it would break my hair. It is that curly (and fragile). I used to chemically relax but stopped when I strated coloring my hair. Only one chemical process at a time, you know?
PS – Keratin isn’t a chemical process and can be done on top of color. May actually help your color last longer as it improves the health of your hair.
