Warning: this is an epically long recap so I’ll be adding and submitting it pieces at a time so pieces might be missing for a minute.
Right, so I literally just got home and sat on the couch and figured I’d at least attempt a recap of the last 17 days so here we go.
We went to Florence, Italy for 5 days. It took me a good 24 hours to fall in love with this city but now that I have, it runs deep and everlasting. I didn’t want to leave and we literally started to consider ways to come back to live there. Stay tuned on that. ha
Some pictures:
The Ponte Vecchio:
The Duomo:
The second day we took a bike tour through Tuscany. It was GORGEOUS but hotter than hell, I thought I was going to die at least 3 times on the back half. Regardless, this was a highlight of our trip and we HIGHLY recommend it if you end up in the area!
We ate some crazy delicious food, and I have pictures of every meal… but this was the appetizer course to one of the best meals of my life in this amazing restaurant where they had to read the whole menu to us in English:
We decided to spend on of the days in the BEAUTIFUL Cinque Terre region and took the train to Riomaggiore. It was unreal. Cinque Terre means “5 lands” and its five tiny cities on the rocky coastline of the Ligurian Sea.
We rented a boat! Then we uh… skinny dipped in the ocean in the afternoon. It was AWESOME.
Back to Florence. This is inside the Duomo!
After Florence was Paris for two nights. We’d been before so we just kind of took it easy and walked around as we wished, but we did have reservations at Les Papilles, the best meal of my life.
The Notre Dame at night:
We went on the Ferris Wheel at this carnival they had set up in front of the Louvre. That’s Sacre Coeur in the background. This city is just so freaking beautiful it just breaks my heart.
We didn’t spend much time in Paris and left early to make the 30 hour trek from Paris to Bangalore, India (that was a 9 hour layover, dear god), to Male, Maldives. I knew we were hitting the jackpot when this came into view from our plane:
We landed in Male, the capital of the Maldives – which are a bunch of tiny little independent tropical islands in the middle of no where Indian Ocean. We took a sea plane to our resort island.
From the sea plane:
Our resort right before we landed in the water:
We had our own private beach cabana, beach access and chairs. And a completely outdoor bathroom which is really weird when it’s hot and you need to poop, just fyi.
Everything at the resort was WILDLY expensive (food and drinks and such) since it all had to be imported from Australia and Thailand. We knew that going into it but it was still kind of a shock. Regardless we couldn’t resist this $200 seafood platter.
A couple of ‘view’ pictures:
Yeah he does… 17 days of ridiculous travel and we still didn’t kill each other!
Overall everything went as planned! The travel was very hard, I’m not going to lie. We were gone 17 days and I just tallied up that we were traveling in a plane or airport for 5 entire days of this trip. Also I’m battling some kind of virus so that sucks. I’ll go to the clinic tomorrow to find out of its Dengue Fever. ha
Anyway, epic travel honeymoon is epic! So glad we did it though!
