How big is your kidney stone and do you know where it is in your ureter?  That would be a big deciding factor on whether or not it should be removed.  If the size if favourable, you have decent pain control, no signs of infection, kidney function is good on bloodwork, etc, they could wait a couple weeks to see if you can pass the stone on your own.  I would way rather do that than have a ureteroscopy.  If the stone is really big, that would change the situation though.  If you end up needing surgery, they could shield your pelvis with a lead gown and use as little xrays as possible.  Have you discussed this with your urologist?  Most would be pretty conservative you are actively TTC and there’s a chance you could be pregnant.

Kannon :  If that’s the case, I’d go ahead but ask that they do the shielding, etc.  And like you said, hopefully the test will be negative so you don’t need to worry about whether or not your surgery would affect things.  Good luck!  Hope your surgery goes well.  It’s too bad about the timing of everything!

Omg bee I’m in a weird spot with my kidney stones. I have two kidney stones that were found (one in each kidney) a week before I got a positive test (now 15 weeks along). Both are over 6mm so they cannot pass on their own. My doctor was taking his time deciding what type of surgery they’d do and then I got the positive test. They aren’t doing a thing for my stones until after I give birth. Granted they aren’t blocking anything or causing infection thus far. I am FREAKING out over them because 1) they cause pain and 2) I’m scared they will be ginormous by the time I give birth. I’m so wishing you luck. I’d for sure push it back even just four days to see if you’re pregnant first. I was told they don’t treat kidney stones too large to pass in pregnancy because the procedure can cause miscarriage. What type of surgery are they doing for you? If there is something they consider safe in pregnancy, I’d love to hear about it!

Kannon :  my primary care doctor told me to wait, and I had a second opinion by my OB who also said to wait. I may go back to my primary care doctor to talk about ureterscopy though. I want to see what my options are beyond waiting it out. I can’t imagine how much bigger mine have gotten in 16 weeks 😫

please let me know how it goes for you!!!
