I have a kidney stone. Oh joy! I had one a couple years ago, (they also run in my family), and this feels the same, so I haven’t seen a doctor for it. I had two different people tell me about Coke and asaparagus as a way to flush them out of your body. So I checked it out online and it seems like it works for a lot of people.
You’re supposed to drink six cans in the space of two hours. Um, I LOVE Coke, but no way am I getting down that much Coke and keeping it down! LOL! I am aiming for half that, (figure three cans that stay put are better than six cans that make me sick). After the Coke, you’re supposed to eat two cups of pureed asparagus, then drink a lot of water.
Anyone tried this? Did it work for you???

I can imagine that making your kidneys work and pushing it through your system, but I can’t imagine how much that would make it hurt!

@Miss Apricot: I recently just passed one last friday! I just chugged lots of water and out they came. Mine was broken up into little pieces though.

Soda and tea cause kidney stones from what I was told. Your best bet is to drink a ton of water and/or go to the doctor.

I wish I had known about this! I had 9 kidney stones in the span of a year (this was probably 5 years ago). I would’ve tried anything at that point.
My dad had them also, and told me to drink beer. For the small ones, it worked! Or maybe it was conicidence… but hey, it made me feel a heck of a lot better in the process!!
Good luck with your experiment!

I have tried every remedy for kidney stones. None of them actually work. Your best bet is to drink lots (and I mean LOTS) of water and walk around a bit to get it moving. If it doesn’t pass, it needs to be surgically removed.

So far the pain has stopped, and I’ve peed a LOT, but no sign of any stones. lol!
Also, I’ve been drinking a lot of water the past several days, in addition.

My dad drinks a TON of tea. He gave it up for a while, and STILL got kidney stones, so he said, “Screw it, if I’m getting them anyway, I’m going drink the tea!” LOL!
I’ve heard that pop can contribute to them…I just think it’s odd that AFTER I cut back on pop, I start having kidney pain!
If I don’t pass it in a couple days, I’ll go in. I hate to waste money on a doctor visit to just have them tell me what I already know. I’m poor! LOL! If it doesn’t pass soon, though, it’s probably too big to do so on its own and is worth a visit.

Citrus is the only thing that will help break up and help stop future ones from occuring. I had them when I was pregnany and thought I was in premature labor. It was caused by the influx of calcium in my diet. Drink some OJ or lemonade on a regular basis and you should hopefully not see a recurrence.

hmmm.. I’d never heard of soda and asparagus. I do know that certain things can be more likely to cause kidney stones, and soda (especially dark soda) is one of them. I’ve had kidney stones and my partner’s brother just passed one. I was lookin at his list of foods to avoid adn dark soda was on it. Just drinking plenty of fluid can help.
