Thought I wanted something like this:

And ended up with something close to what I thought I wanted! 🙂 Ignore the bolero.

I ended up with a dress that was very similar to my original vision.  It’s a cross of my top 4 favorite dresses from Pinterest, only one of which was in my price range.  Along the way I tried on these two and was surprised by how much I loved them, but ultimately went with my vision.

Enzoani Gainesville (This was amazing but so heavy!)

Enzoani Galesburg (loving the deep front totally shocked me!)

Watters Sterling was the first dress I ever saw on Pinterest and felt an immediate connection to.  I was in LOVE.  I was considering having The Shop make a replica crossing this with some of the strap elements from Watters San Francisco.

I found my Maggie Sottero Quinlynn

I wanted long sleeves, lace, buttons down the back, probably pink, beaded belt… on try #1 I got A ruched bodice tulle ball gown with a zippered closure in blush. I got a big flowered black sash.

On try #2 I got an Essence of Australia lace fit and flare gown with an oyster lining, beaded belt and cathedral Veil. The only thing I really hated about it is the corset lace up back. But it’s not a deal breaker obviously.

I wanted: not white, not strapless, flowy, minimal embellishment except maybe some horsehair trim

I got: white, strapless, mermaid, lace and tulle, with horsehair trim. So I got one thing right? lol

sway0060:  I wanted a ballgown, satin, no lace, no embroidery, minimal bling, strapless, corset back and sweetheart neckline like this Pnina. This Pnina was my dream dress actually.

I ended up with a ballgown, taffeta, bling belt, v neck, zip up back with buttons and off shoulder straps. Love my gown.

sway0060:  I thought I would get something tight and lace. Sexy without being overly sexy. I ended up not even trying on one lace dress. Ended up with a flowy “safe” dress….

sway0060:  Yes, absolutely! When I first started looking at dresses, I thought I wanted Ivory, all lace with beading, and fit and flare. I tried a few dresses that fit that description and they just didn’t do anything for me! I ended up with an a-line dress, with lace bodice, layered tulle skirt, no beading, and in a light gold/ivory color. It has a beautiful lace back, which I loved. I love everything about the dress, actually! Totally different than what I thought I wanted too. Mine is the Allure Romance 2716.

I wanted a romantic, A-line, all-lace dress without any sparkly beading like this:

But I ended up with a satin, mermaid dress with sparkly beading and some lace details:

I’ve got my 2nd alterations appointment this weekend – can’t wait to see it the right length and actually fitted to my body!

I was open to just about anything but knew I didn’t want too much lace, no satin and would probably shy away from a-lines. I was pretty sure I’d end up in a mermaid or fit and flare but ended up with a dropped waist ball gown in ….satin.
