Just had to share a pivotal moment in my life, since that’s what we’re about here in the hive…in an effort to make 2013 the best year Mr. 99 and I have had yet, and since we both got it over with and got kind of fat…it’s ok if I use that word…but if anyone else says it I’m kicking them in the neck…I experienced my first aerial silks class on Sunday.
I’ll admit to being nervous, and even more so when I had flash backs to middle school gym class when the rest of my classmates arrived with me towering over all of the super petite extra tiny ladies, the instructors included, and then I’m supposed to haul my six foot tall cookies up a bolt of fabric hanging from the ceiling in front of all of them….
I felt like Andre the Giant must have for his entire life..only men are allowed to be HUGE…women aren’t…so it was an awful moment of awkwardness for me…but I powered through that, because I’m not some gawky 13 year old any more, I am Mrs. 99, and I have helped my husband get through five years of shoulder surgeries, kept my mother alive with plasma transfusions every other day for six weeks, raised two of the most stubborn step children god put on this Earth and if I wanna make as ass out of my gigantic self, I’m going to BECAUSE I CAN.
Funnily enough, that of all vanished as we started the warm up, and I discovered, that while I may be carrying some extra weight, I certainly haven’t lost an inch when it comes to flexibility, so there was an equalizing moment as I’m all stretched out in a deep straddle with my head on the floor, and the other women are fighting to keep their knees flat…which hurts, I know…so after that, we all got down to it and started fighting with gravity on these swaths of fabric.
Everyone was really great at one thing, and totally sucked at another, but we all just started cheering each other on, having some laughs at the funnier positions we all managed to get caught in and having some giggles, giving each other pushes to swing across the studio all Peter Pan Style with another five yards of silk flowing behind us!
The fallout from the hour and a half class is that I’m pretty sure I broke my entire upper body, and this morning I felt like T-rex trying to wash it’s hair in the shower, thank the lord for Mr. 99, who after having a good laugh at my antics, stepped in the lather, rinse and repeat for me…he even helped me with the at home conditioning portion of my new routine, cheering me on and being pretty impressed when I rolled myself up on my shoulder blades to point my toes in front of his face while hanging onto his calves for dear life…
So yeah, go me, I just wanted to share that, because it’s Monday, and I’m extra proud…even if I can hardly type.
