Ok….so I am going home in a few days! Home as in where I grew up and where the wedding is!!! In MN but I live in WA, so not exactly close. Anyways, I will only be home for a week and as of right now its the last time I will be home until the wedding which is in July. Here is what I have taken care of and will be “touching base with” when I am there, Photographer, decorator,DJ, floral, food/reception site. Uhh…Need to figure out tuxes and will be doing that…oh ya, my one and only alteration appointment. I feel like there is more, Ahh one week and A LOT to finalixe it seems so far before the wedding yet!! Is this just not crazy! I feel it is, planning a wedding in a state I dont live in! Thank goodness for my mother! But still, its like I want to be there and see things and what not myself! I trust my mom and all but still, so I really want to make sure I knock out as much as pos!

My advice is to take a camera and a measuring tape, and take LOTS of notes. 🙂 I was planning my Maryland wedding from England, and only had a weekend in the town where we were getting married, during the months before. I just made sure I took lots of pics of the reception site, so I could clearly map out for myself where I needed everything to go– florals, gifts, guest book, escort cards, etc. Photos were very helpful to me, as it was such a whirlwind weekend that I couldn’t keep every last detail straight in my mind. Also made sure I got the correct dimensions of the dining room, so I could arrange it how I wanted with long rectangular tables. Taking the measurements helped me avoid an expensive mistake with the dance floor, when it came time to rent that, and allowed me to order many of the supplies such as linens and table runners, etc. less expensively online, rather than go with a local rental agency who “knew” the location. Good luck!

Good luck!!! I’m in the same kind of situation, and am making my first trip ‘home’ this week too! We’re looking at 4 venues in 3 days AND going dress shopping with my mom! Woooo hooo…

What about the bakery that is doing your cake? Or is that part of your contract with the food/reception site?
Do you need to rent any items- tables, chairs, linens? If so, you may want to find a party rental company.
If you are having invitations and other paper goods made in MN then maybe meet up with them too.
Arrange musicians for ceremony- pianist, organist, strings, etc.
Is there anything that you need to do with the rehearsal dinner?
Also, you could look for gifts for the wedding party so that you wouldn’t have to travel back with them. Same goes for all the little things- guest book, pen, cake serving set, toasting flutes, garter (if you are including these things)

@ Miss Sparckles-Hair and make up- good call! Almost forgot that one,
@Lampshade- The cake I am going to double check on and actually change around my order. Gifts are done for the Wedding Party, and gues book is a work in progress (Doing like a scrapbook pic thing, so that not all together yet) Recept site takes care of linens and all the above (Thank goodness)
@Jhphi- so true on the camera thing, thank goodness I am going home because I did that before when I booked our place and then my computer crashed and I lost all my pics, and then the memory card they were on got corrupted pretty much right after that! Gees! So ya, going to have to do that again, because when I did have the pics it helped to look at space and plan some stuff out!
hmmmm…..my mind is going 1,000,000 miles an hour and I am so afraid of forgeting things that I HAVE to get done this trip!
