Ok so yesterday was our first visit with the OB. They did an 8 week trans-vaginal u/s and a pap smear. Everything they could see looked great! We even went and told EVERYONE that evening that we are pregnant. I was told there might be light spotting but to call if it was more like a period. Well I am trying to sleep so I can work all night and had felt lightly crampy which I just chalked up to a growing uterus. I just got up to pee and there was way more than my normal spotting amount of blood. Almost what it looks like right at the start of my period. Most of it brown but some bright red. I am in bed right now hoping to give it a few to chill before I check again just incase it really is just heavy spotting from the exam.
Anybody experienced this before? Am I freaking out ovrt nothing? Am I crazy for not being halfway to the hospital? So scared and nervous!

@Mrs Hedgehog: Give your OB a call and they will have you come in to get checked out. It’s probably nothing since you saw the baby on the 8wk u/s, but you’re not going to feel better until you get checked. We could speculate all day long, and it could be nothing or something. Sending prayers your way that it’s nothing and ((hugs)) just because!

@Mrs Hedgehog: That happened to me as well. I would call you doctor instead of rushing to the ER. brown blood means that you were bleeding, probably from the pap, but now it is stopped. They want you to be bleeding bright red enough to fill more than a cup before coming in with intense cramping. In the beginning you are going to feel like you are on your period (cramp wise). The ER doctors will scare you, so I’m trying to save you from that. When I went they told me to go home and pray. NOT something you want to hear. But that was 5 weeks ago, and baby is growing.
When you are pregnant, your body has more blood, and is more irritate down at the cervix, especially if you have a pap. I would not have sex for two weeks after bleeding has stopped, and drink lots of water and rest.
Good luck and sticky baby dust!

Yeah, the hospital probably won’t do anything anyway at this point so just call your OB. The pap smear and internal ultrasound likely are the culprit but call. I definitely had spotting and it all turned out ok but my doctor told me to call ANYTIME there was any blood at all.

Call your doc ASAP and ask them what you should do. Hopefully they can squeeze you in so you can avoid the ER.
Honestly, I would consider sending you to the ER just to get checked out if you see any more bright red blood (to be on the safe side, not because I think there is anything wrong) BUT with the flu epidemic you’re probably better off staying away.

I just checked again and it seems a ton lighter… still crampy but nothing too bad. Dull really. Maybe I am just freaking out.

@Mrs Hedgehog: I hope everything is okay! I bet it is.
I’m only 4 weeks and I’m having the same problem, but I’m fearing the worst. I am in constant fear of miscarriage.

Brown colour indicates “old” blood not fresh blood, so it is most likely due to the Pap. When women are warned to call if they’re “bleeding like a period”, it usually means bright red and in an amount more than would require a pantyliner.
Sounds very normal and unconcerning to me, but if you’re in doubt give your care provider a call to see what they say. ER trips are usually not the best way to deal with bleeding in the first trimester unless there is pain involved and/or the bleeding is really heavy and not slowing down (ie. danger of hemorrhage).

I had bleeding for all of my pregnancies(I also had two miscarriages) In my experience brown blood is not a problem, they recommend going to the emergency if you see heavy bleeding and cloths. The bleeding can be caused by “implantation bleeding”. or it you have A- blood like me.

I also had bleeding at 8 weeks and it turns out I had a UTI (and the blood was bright red). And they said bleeding isn’t a huge deal unless it fills a pad, but if you’re RH-, your doctor does need to know if you’re bleeding just in case you do need a rhogam shot.
