So, I woke up this morning at 1am soaking wet sweating, (very unusual for me)…so I got up and changed my pajamas and went back to sleep. At 4am my husband woke up and grabbed an extra blanket, as the room had become extremely cold. I woke up at 6:30am when my alarm went off and the house was like an ice box! The furnace hadn’t kicked in. I thought it was strange, cranked it up, and went on to have my breakfast. The furnace still didn’t kick in, so I went up to tell my husband, thinking I had somehow messed up the thermostat. He came down and also couldn’t get it to work. So…I’m at work now obsessing that the house temperature is dropping steadily, wanting desperately to put a service call in but waiting for my indecisive husband to give me the go ahead. He wants to get new batteries for the thermostat and see if that works first. In the meantime, it’s going to go down to -19c tonight, and if we wait to get a service call in until after work we’re pretty much screwed if the batteries don’t work. The furnace is 20years old and I’m really fearing it’s number is up and we’ll have to get a new one, which we just can’t afford right now. Everything happens at once…my husband had a terrible car accident just before Christmas which totalled his car (thank goodness he was alright), then we just had to put $800 worth of repairs into my car, and now the furnace? Whyyyyy?
And to top it all off, the long muscle in my back below my shoulder blade (I know…clearly I am not a doctor or a nurse) has just started spasming, making it very painful to move or breath 🙁 Boy, I sure hope my day gets better!
Thanks everyone. That is all 🙂

Oh wow that’s so unfortunate, I’ll pray that it is just the batteries! I hope your day gets better, keep us updated 🙁

@Songbird29: that’s a bummer! I usually just schedule service calls and tell my Fiance when it’s happening and who’s coming…I waited for him to “fix a toilet” for exactly one year…and I finally had to call the plumber.
I hope you’re day gets better!

Oh crap. That used to happen in our farm house every once in awhile and then we had to get a new unit eventually. It got SO cold! I hate getting cold because I ALWAYS get sick if I get cold at night. I have a low BBT anyhow (96).
I am feeling jealous today which is weird for me. I figure it will pass. I just found out my friend’s husband got an amazing job and I am happy for them, but my husband got laid off and we are expecting. :/

Thanks everyone. Our furnace has done this before, but luckily then it WAS the thermostat and once we replaced it everything was fine. But with a brand new thermostat in, I doubt very much that is the problem. My husband is heading home on his lunch break to see if he can get it working and if not I guess we put a call in for service, not that they’ll be able to get out that quickly!
@ cbee I’m sorry 🙁 **Hugs** to you. We’ll just have to keep believing that everything happens for a reason, and will work themselves out!
It’s like they say….often when a door closes another one opens, but we’re so busy looking and obsessing over the closed door we don’t notice the open one! So….I’m trying not to think too hard about the negatives, and I’m waiting for things to get better 🙂 They gotta, right? They do say everything happens in 3’s…

Thanks for your support ladies! So, last night after 2 repair guys came (the first one went practically running out the door telling us to find someone else), we decided that the wiring in our furnace is a MESS, honestly I have no idea how it’s been working this long…and that we’d be better off just getting a new one. So, we’re anticipating at least one more night of freezing cold 🙁 Things could always be worse….right?
