I am seriously considering getting the Kindle Fire HD. Anyone have one of these? Do you like it? I am debating between getting the 7 or 8.9. There is a hundred dollar difference in price between the two. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I have it. My Darling Husband gave it to me for my bday last year. I LOVE it. I dont know if its 7 or 8.9….but regardless, it rocks! I haven’t had any issues (had it since November) and its been a great travel buddy (especially for flying). I’ve skyped with my family on it too without issue.
You will love it too I am sure 🙂

Yikes! I am reading reviews of both and instead of helping me decide, I am getting more confused!

Is it necessary to buy a case for it? What is the stylus thing all about? Do I really need that $20 “fast charger”? Can you use the camera like you would with a cell phone or is it only for stuff like Skype?

I have it, but I do have HUGE gripe with it. You can’t read it outside. And I love love love to read outside – especially at the beach and pool. That can’t happen because of the screen.

I have the fast charger and it is worth it in my opinion. I am also the proud owner of the 7″. I love it because it isn’t HUGE. It a nice size with a case that I can just put in my purse and go.

I have it and love it. I had an iPad before it, but I liked the Kindle Fire HD better although they are different devices. I only use mine just to read, occasionally play games, and watch movies though.

Well I don’t play games or watch movies. I do read books and listen to music and I read the sound quality is supposed to be excellent for its size.

I L O V E my kindle fire!! I have the 7″ and think it is the perfect size and weight. It is so easy to just throw in my purse/bag and go. I use my Kindle for everythign: reading, listening to music, playing games, watching movies while Darling Husband is trying to study and I even use it for making/using grocery lists.
I personally felt it was necessary to get a case for it becaue I am the master of dropping all things expensive and having them break. The case I bought (RooCase) was very inexpensive and does a great job of protecting my Kindle. As for reading outside, I just change the background color and brightness of the screen and I haven’t had any issues with reasding once the lighting has been adjusted.
Also, I would agree that, for its size, the sound quaity is really great. I often have it play music while I am showering and I can hear it fairly well.

How about the camera? Is it true that you can only use it for things like Skype? And I am picking up my Kindle Fire HD 7 on Tuesday! Most of the tax return is going towards the downpayment on a car, but I wanted at least one “toy” for me!

I’m obsessed with my Kindle. I have the 7 inch its the perfec size. The fast charger is a must. I recommend also getting a HDMI cable to connect to your TV. You’ll find cases for cheap off Amazon. The camera is only for Skype.

Well I got the Kindle Fire HD 7 yesterday. Oh boy, a new toy! So I take it home and oh my – so easy! It automatically detects my Wifi! It hooks me up with my Amazon account, hooks up with FB, my e-mail – joy! I go to Youtube to check out the awesome sound – I am so impressed and then — NOTHING! The Kindle turned off. WTF, the battery? Nope! I restart and get this screen that tells me Kindle is failing to boot and to try these two options. So I did, several times. I get the same screen. I call Kindle support at Amazon. The tech guy has me try this and that. Nope. I got a screwed up Kindle!
So I go back to Best Buy and exchange it. The guy there checked out my faulty Kindle and declares he never saw anything like it before. But I got another Kindle and so far this one seems to be working fine.
Figures! I rarely splurge on myself so it was a big deal to do this. Heck for Christmas when FH asked what i wanted, I told him fireplace tools (we needed them) and I couldn’t think of a single “fun” item to get myself.
Anyway, thanks for all the opinions! I am off to look for tutorials so I can learn how to use this gizmo!
