Kitchen Decor Help!

I agree with you about the wood contrast. Have you considered painting the cabinets? A friend got stuck in an otherwise perfect house with cherry cabinets installed against an exposed brick wall… yuck. It was cheaper than she expected to refinish and paint the cabinets a very light gray and now it’s a dream kitchen!

I think cherry or not I’d paint those cabinets b/c you’re right, they aren’t doing the room any favors.  Maybe a creamy color.  And for what it’s worth, our ceiling is light wood with darker beams and looks great – a little goes a long way, this is just too much in one area.  Alternatively if painting is a pain, a larger area rug (that can be washed easily) could cut down on the floor some and give you the color you’re looking for.  

No idea about the table except I probably would steer away from natural colored wood or keep a cloth on it all the time.  We are having the same issue at this point due to wood ceilings and floors – feels like so much!
