I dont think i’ve really seen a non wood toned kitchen, unless it was painted white.  I love the wood cabinets, but I am a fan of the darker cherry type woods, than light oaks.  I love the color of my island, unfortunately the rest of the kitchen was not renovated with the same wood also.

@CorgiTales: I love the green!  We attempted to paint our living room apple green but it came out a little brighter than we intended… what brand/color paint did you use?

thanks all! The cabinets actually aren’t black they’re just very very dark brown (“kona”). I love them except they show fingerprints like crazy– a little annoying! lol. The green color I got from a Behr swatch and it was called Asparagus. But I actually got Sherwin Williams to color-match it from the paint chip because I got a discount on Sherwin Williams paint. πŸ™‚

Here are before (yellow) and after (black and white) pictures of my kitchen.  My husband and I did all of the work ourselves (except the granite), and it was surprisingly easy.  I love seeing everyone’s kitchens – gorgeous!  We live in the middle of a big city, so I always thought that my kitchen with HUGE… now I am majorly jealous of all your islands!

@septcabride: i love it!! where did you get the little tiles for your backsplash? I really want to do that in our kitchen at some point. And the hanging pans are so cool!
