Sorry I don’t have first-hand advice for you, but I’m writing because I remember seeing lots of relevant posts here. Try searching for past threads, and good luck.

I recall reading their alterations being really pricey.

Hey!

I went to Kleinfeld’s with a friend a few years ago. The consultants are incredibly nice, but they are ultimately there to make a sale and get a comission. They want you to buy a dress by the end of your appointment and work very hard to achieve this goal. However, my friend didn’t find them to be overly pushy; if you don’t like something they certainly aren’t going to make you try it on, even if they think it will look good on you. And they won’t lie either. If something doesn’t suit you, they will probably say so. Reputation to uphold and all that!

Do remember that they sell expensive merchandise. A budget of $1,500 may get you far at a normal boutique but at Kleinfeld’s that is the lower end of what is avaible. They might tell you this, so don’t be offended because again, they are just being honest. (And your budget may be much higher than that)

They don’t love you taking pictures unless you’ve bought the dress but I believe they will allow it if you have a good reason. My friend didn’t really ask, so I can’t confirm this. She got a beautiful dress (at about $1,000 above her $4,000 budget–yikes! but you only get married once, right?)

HAVE FUN!!!

harleybeanswind21:  Noo, sorry, I didn’t mean to shame you at all! I don’t recall any identical/repeat threads. Just a lot of mention of kleinfeld, so maybe you’ll find what you need in a few of them 🙂

I’d read their Yelp page too. A lot of complaints saying if you aren’t being filmed for the show they don’t let you walk out and show your family til you’ve decided on a dress, and basically treating you like garbage if your budget isn’t at least $5k

I like the show but I wouldn’t shop there

I went to Kleinfeld a few months ago and I was super excited since I’m a big fan of the show. As soon as I walked in, though, I knew it wouldn’t be for me. The place was a total zoo and I had to switch back and forth with another bride who kept standing in the little block where my party was since she didn’t get a designated spot, which was awkward. My consultant was one from the show (which was exciting for me haha) and she was perfectly nice but I didn’t feel like she made a real effort. I brought examples of dresses I liked and but I was hoping to see things I hadn’t found myself since they have such a huge selectoon but she basically brought what I wanted and then was like That’s it! So, I was a little disappointed that she didn’t try to pull more new styles for me. She was really willing to bargain, though, so I’d recommend trying that if you find a dress you like. They also let me take pictures of all the dresses I tried, which was nice. Overall I was glad I went since it was fun to see it in real life after watching so many episodes of SYTTD, but it was not my favorite shopping experience. Definitely more of a spectacle!

If you are looking elsewhere in NYC I highly reccommend Amsale, Wedding Atelier, and Gabriella. I looked a lot and those were my favorites in terms of experience and dress selection.

Have fun and good luck!

harleybeanswind21:  Hi there, I went to Kleinfelds and my experience was overall okay, but I ended up purchasing my dress at another shop in NY that I liked much more.

My consultant was very sweet and of course I was able to show my family any dresses that I tried on. I do know that their regularly priced gowns start at $2,500.

We were allowed to take photos.

My consultant wasn’t pushy at all, but did offer a 12% discount if I purchased that day. If you find something you like, maybe see if you can get that discount.

I thought Kleinfelds was okay but my mom really didn’t care for the store IRL. The dresses were nice and my consultant was nice, but she never did pull anything that wow’ed me and after I left, I somewhat regretted not speaking up more, but I also wished my consultant would have just picked up on the fact that I never really did seem super excited in anything.

My mom didn’t like the store because she thought it felt impersonal. They were seated on one of the couches in the main room with the pedestal and mirror in front of it and brides from all over kept running up on to it in front of them and running down and it just felt chaotic, according ot my mom. I didn’t really notice because I was in the dressing room.

Overall, it was an okay experience but I just didn’t find the right dress and my mom wasn’t thrilled with store. They have an awesome variety of dresses though so definitely enjoy the experience and my best advice would be to really spreak up about what you like and don’t like! It will make your experience much more enjoyable, I think!

I went to Kleinfelds twice. I had Kat for both appointments and she was so amazing!! She was definitely no where near pushy the first time and let me try on anything. She also took pictures for me. It was only me and my friend so I didn’t need to walk out and show anybody so I can’t speak of that. I bought a Pnina during the sample sale, but ended up having regret. I went to Bridal’s by Lori because they’re the only place in GA that has Lazaro and that was the only good experience out the several times I have been there. And Lori’s doesn’t let you take pics until you say yes, which I think is stupid considering they are on national tv…Anyways, I much perfer Kleinfeld.

harleybeanswind21:  Kleinfeld was actually my least favorite experience out of the 4 bridal salon’s I went to. Maybe because I was one of the last appointments of the day, my consultant was not bringing me the silhouette I was describing…. I even walked the sales floor with her. However, she never offered or told me about those back rooms with racks on racks of dresses you see on the show. I received an email asking for feedback, and responded to them saying although my consultant was very nice and nothing bad happened during my experience, I was surprised by their lack of selection. One of the co-owners called me the very next morning and said if I would come back they would have Randy or one of the other head people do my consultation along with the consultant who originally helped me. So my actual experience was kind of disappointing, but it was nice for them to try to earn my business back after the fact.

I bought my dress at Kleinfeld. I was really nervous before the appointment because I LOVE the show, but I had read the mixed reviews. My experience there was actually amazing. To be upfront about it, my parents knew one of their employees, who was able to hand pick my consultant and stop by and check on the appointment, etc…, so my view might be biased. I don’t know. I had one of the consultants from the show, and she was wonderful. She understood exactly what I was looking for, and stayed well within my price range. The dresses were stunning, and they all felt soooo good on! I met Mara (one of the owners), and my mom and bridesmaid had a specific area to sit and wait out on the main floor, and I had my own designated mirror to stand in front of. They didn’t seem to have an issue with us taking pictures or anything.

I will also say, I was not there on a weekend. I did my absolute best to schedule all my bridal appointments on weekdays during regular business hours so that it would be a lot quieter. Their alterations are also super expensive, so if you can get away with not doing them there, I’d recommend that.

I actually had a friend that went to Kleinfields like 2 weeks ago and she did not have a good experience. She said it was very rushed and her consultant didn’t bring her anything she said she wanted. She also went on a Saturday. I am not sure if that had anything to do with it. I went to Bridals by Lori in Atlanta and had a great experience but I also filmed SYTTD so I’m not sure if the experience is the same for everyone across the board. I would hope so because all brides deserve a good gown shopping experience regardless of a camera being there.

I got my dress at kleinfeld. My experience was great. My consultant was not pushy at all.  Definitely be honest about your budget because it’s really easy to get carried away with the huge selection. Alterations there are pricey, but I chose to get my alterations done somewhere else for much cheaper. My consultant actually recommended it because my dress was simple and wouldn’t need much altering. They shipped it very well and it came to me well packaged and in perfect shape. You definitely can’t beat the selection at kleinfeld. They have tons of designers exclusively designing for them! Good luck!
