I’d like to clarify based on some of the comments.  Brides are not paying $2,500 for Maggie Sottero Dresses.  My girlfriend bought her MS dress from Kleinfeld and it was less than $1,500.  I will tell you that they don’t have a large selection under $2,500.  If you want variety for that price range maybe go to other places first.

I was watching at SYTTD ripoff on YouTube- a shop based in Beverly Hills. One of the brides got Sophia Tolli dress for like $4000. They retail about $1500-2000! I was completely aghast!

Ugggh I wish I had a $3,000 budget for a dress, I would find an $800 gown and splurge on a whole new wardrobe that I could wear everyday

when I first saw pictures of my dress online, I only found it in Oregon, Delaware, and at Kleinfeld. Being from northern NJ, I decided to bite the bullet and go to my closest option: Kleinfeld. Before going, I had already decided that if I loved the dress as much as I thought I would, I’d hold off buying it in NYC and just take the drive to Delaware so I didn’t have to pay a marked up price. The website says that all dresses start at $2,500, but that’s not true… I think they only post that (as bitchy as it sounds) because they can. My DREAM dress cost $1,200 at Kleinfeld, and I’ll tell anyone who listens that my experience there was AWESOME!! I’ve never watched Say Yes to the Dress, but I know a couple of people who’ve been on the show. So much of it is just to gain viewers (like all TV). I’m not gonna lie, although my dress wasn’t marked up, they put a headband and veil on me that each cost more than my dress haha… Needless to say, I left extremely happy, but without the veil and headband!!

SkinnyLatte17:  It’s all for show. “Drama” otherwise no one would watch.

They don’t carry dress less than $2000.  I don’t get it either, my dress was a Casablanca it cost $780 without alterations And it had more bead work, crystals, pearls than any of the lower end dresses that klienfelds Carey’s.  its the same foe David’s bridal, they are low end but there is no bling.  It’s best to find a small boutique, with a good reputation and buy there.  to buy a dress there just to say you did its pretentious.

Star66:  it also depends on the material of the dress and yes certain dresses have beading but most of the  dresses at Kleinfelds have real swavarski crystals and that naturally increases the cost for these dresses. I purchased mine from there but in Toronto and my dress was not marked up at all nor did they sell Hayley Paige Star at many other locations

SkinnyLatte17:  I purchased my dress from Kleinfelds in NYC. I’m from NYC  and my mom and BMs live there so I did most of my dress shopping in the area. Kleinfelds was the 5th store I went to, and I have a fantastic experience! The consultants were great, and knew exactly what i was looking for, while staying in my budget. I bought a Maggie Sottero dress for under 1500…I did some looking around afterwards and it was in fact the going price. While they may not have an extensive selection of lower priced dresses, I was able to find my dream dress there, finally, after trying on 35+ gowns. So I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience at Kleinfelds.

Came across this comment while looking through Tri-State Area weddings on SMP for inspiration; the bride wore a Tara Keely gown she purchased from Kleinfeld’s NYC, and her remarks made me think back to this thread:

For my dress, I knew i wanted strapless & lace. Everything else was open for discussion. I had NO intention of purchasing my dress from Kleinfeld’s but immediately made an appointment just for the “bridal experience”. When I was asked to be on Say Yes To The Dress the stress set in especially since Kleinfeld’s “starting price” WAS my budget. When I went in for my consultation they told me I was going to have a hard time because “good lace isn’t cheap” but I was determined to try. My consultant came back with 3 options and pretty much said “well this is what we have in your price range”. I pointed to the first one and said “let’s start here. I love that”. I put it on and immediately knew it was the one…tears and all. Now came the stress of pleasing the entourage (all 6 of them!). I walked out without saying a word to find every one of them reaching for the box of tissues. It was the first wedding dress I had ever tried on and all 7 of us unanimously said “YES to the dress”.

…So I’m guessing we won’t be able to settle the debate as to whether or not Kleinfeld’s drastically marks up their prices on at least some of their dresses, but this bride’s experience does seem to be in line with the attitude often portrayed on the show that they don’t carry dresses below a certain price point (apparently $2,500).  I used to much prefer watching SYTTD over SYTTD: Atlanta, but one thing I enjoy about the Atlanta version (besides the fact that Monty and Lori are hilarious) is that no one ever seems to chastise the brides shopping at Bridals by Lori for having too low of a dress budget.

You go to them for their exclusive designers. I’m so surprised that there are so many brides that hate Pnina! I think Pnina has the most beautiful gowns I have ever seen! If I had the budget, I would have gotten on a plane to NY and snatch up one of the Pnina’s!
