@DreamInColor:  I’m from NYC, and I went to Kleinfelds. I didn’t buy my dress there though.

I went there and didn’t have a great experience. It was a factory and my attendant was not kind even though she was already getting my SIL an expensive gown. They also pressured my SIL into ordering an expensive veil a year in advance – told her she had to- so that she wouldn’t shop around. This as she was dropping major money on a gown. You didn’t miss much.

I didn’t go. Many of my friends and relatives have. A few bought from there but most didnt. The dresses and acessories are marked up significantly. Some felt there was too much to choose from. The few that bought from there (IMO) are not money conscious people. They went and wanted the experience- mainly they wanted to be a “kleinfeild bride.” The majority of people didnt buy because they knew the extra money could be put to better use.

I went there and hated it. Plus, they charge more for dresses you can get at other bridal shops.

I went there and had an amazing experience.  I had the first appointment of the day and my associate (Allison) was GREAT! So much so, she was even trying to help me set up skype so my mom overseas could see the dress.

Then when the gown was purchases the owner emailed me to say thanks..this was not a generic email as I replied and he replied again.  I then had thought I needed to change something on my dress..Once again I spoke with the owner..he was on the golf course! and he called me again to follow up..yes it may be a little more expensive than others but you definitely get brilliant customer service!

I went and I had a really good experience. It seems to depend on when you go and who you get as your consultant. I told my consultant everything I wanted in a dress and showed her pictures of my 2 front runners from other stores. She took me all around to pick out dresses I wanted to try on and dresses she thought I would like too. I even got to go in the back room and pick out dresses I wanted to try on. 

She was very good about keeping everything in budget. I narrowed everything down to my 1 favorite dress and she put a veil on and the whole shebang. I told her I still didnt know if I like previous dresses better then the one she had me in. She said that was fine, totally no pressure and gave me her card with all the pricing info on it including discounts she could give and the upcharge that the designer would charge for certain things. 

A few weeks later I was still making my decision and didnt have a picture of the dress. I call Klienfelds and they set the dress up and took multiple pictures for me and provided me with specific sizing information from the designer. 

In the end I did not go with the Klienfelds dress but was extremely happy with my whole experience.

Check their Yelp reviews. I was really surprised, and then not surprised at the same time. Several of the consultants from the show no longer work there.

I had an amazingly fun experience at Kleinfeld, which is where I ended up buying my dress.  I was surprised that I had such a wonderful experience after reading all of the negative online reviews.  I think it must depend on what consultant you get.  I had a woman named Patricia, who was just lovely.  I told her what I was looking for.  She left the room, came back with four or five dresses, and I ended up buying the third one I tried on.  It also helped that I had a “this is the one” moment with my dress.  I thought that the store was very pretty and girly and there was an energy about it that lent to the whole experience of dress shopping.  I live in NYC and probably would not have gone had this not been the case.

I can’t say anything about the alterations experience yet since my dress hasn’t come in.  But the shopping experience has been my favorite part of the wedding planning experience so far.
