@CrystalBlackheart: I read a great article on Offbeat Bride about this issue, and my own sentiments are pretty much the same. http://offbeatbride.com/2009/03/the-ethics-of-an-off-shore-wedding-dress Essentially, that using a designer gown as inspiration isn’t going to put Maggie Sottero in the poor house, and many of them are made in off-shore anyway, but that I feel differently about pirating art from independent artists because it does affect their ability to make a living by selling their art. There are lots of strong feelings about this, and I completely respect differing opinions. Just wanted to add my two cents.

That being said, I think the OP’s gown is beautiful! I am so happy for you that it ended up being what you hoped for! There are many, many brides who want the EXACT thing, and that’s why designer gowns are still a huge business. For a bride who’s budget priorities are allocated toward other things, I think the “inspired” gown that isn’t an exact reproduction is a great deal.

I ordered my dress from sexydress-365.  I found this seller on Ebay.  I sent them several pictures of different dresses I liked and would ask for a price.  I tried on the dresses first.  Then when I finally pick one I sent them my exact emasurements and about  6 weeks later they sent me my dress.. perfect length and size for me.  I do have to get a little taken in.. but that’s my fault not theirs…  I’ve lost some weight.

They even sent me a confirmation email to make sure I was please with my dress and it arrived on time.  My dress fits great and is very similar to the picture I sent.   A little different but I knew that going in, the dress might very.   I asked for white, the original only came in Ivory.  The top is more of a true sweetheart neckline too.  MY cousin is a seamstress and she will alter my dress.  She said she was very impressed with the quality of the dress and said she alters a lot of “real” wedding dresses.  She said they are poorly constructed and cheap.

Overall I had a good experience and I knew there was a chance I’d be let down and lose money on this.   I did a lot of research beofre hand and received references from other brides.  My dress isn’t super fancy material or have beading or lace that can be easily screwed up.    At the end of the day.. I took a chance.  My dress was $239 ( shipping included).  It arrived neatly folded in a fedEx box.  The “inspiration” dress was $3600.

This was my “inspiration” dress below.  It was simply that… an inspriation.  I knew it wouldn’t come out exactly like it… but pretty close!

Sorry I’m making such a stupid face here. haha
