I bought a lauren elaine dress online through Pre owend wedding dresses and I really love it. I wanted a vintage type dress for my shabby chic wedding. But I also want something for the reception, that is short and fun to dance in. My wedding is in November- looking for something preferably under $400 and with feathers???

Hello! Sorry, I just saw these messages. The last few months have been hectic! Yes I did receive my gown. It was a custom dress and was delayed by about one month, due to issues sourcing materials. Overall, I’m neutral on the dress. The design was great in theory but wasn’t executed as well as I thought it should have. They substituted fabric without my knowledge, even though there was a delay in sourcing fabric. The hem was incredibly uneven and it was made too small. There was stretch to the fabric, which they had made it small to account for this, but it was still really tight. The seam between the skirt and bodice did not quite match up on the back, but this was luckily covered up by the sash. The bodice was too short and made me look much bigger than I am.. the waist of the bodice was higher than a natural waist, but not high enough to be an empire waist — super awkward. The bodice itself was also sewn poorly. They used boning (which is good), but there was extra fabric between each piece of boning so it was impossible to have the material lay flat. The only way to fix it is to redo all the boning, which at that point I might as well buy a new dress! So I got married in a wrinkly dress and hoped my arms and bouquet would hide any big wrinkles. One nitpicky thing is that the label is black. We could see the black thread through the dress. Maybe it would have been less noticeable if the dress wasn’t so tight, but it looked like I had a stray thread curled up underneath the layers of my dress.
I spent $300 on alterations to straighten the hem, sew on the sash over the skirt layers to lower the waistline, alter the sleeves, and fix as much of the bodice as possible. They do offer complimentary alterations, but with the one month delay and the detailed changes that needed to be made, I had no time to waste shipping the dress back and forth. With the stress and added alterations cost, I would have just purchased another dress.
The thing that balanced all these negatives is that the material did photograph well, even though the hem still looked terrible even after alterations (this time it was the fault of the local seamstress). I had a dress to wear to the wedding, and I’m married to a most wonderful husband!!! I’m over the dress and will probably cut it up at some point because I don’t think anyone would want to wear it.
