This is my first post… I’m planning my wedding for February on a budget and it is starting to seem impossible to find a Kosher caterer willing to charge less than 100 per guest! I found one caterer who said we can have our wedding at the venue he owns for 70 a person but it is so ugly!!!! Does anyone have any recommendations for Kosher caterers in the New Jersey/New York area that are affordable or suggestions on how I can cut the cost? How much did you guys pay per person for a Kosher reception?

What kind of dinner are you wanting?
There are soooo many kosher delis in NY that also do hot foods and cater, Have you thought about asking one of the large delis to cater kosher food. And if they wont supply the staff, you can hire your own staff to serve the food.
Edit: not many people post prices but I found this

What about the mansion in Vorhees? They have an in house kosher caterer. I don’t know the prices, but when they are in house they are usually cheaper. Where in NY do you want?

@Kallah0220: Do you have a venue yet? Lots of venue’s will offer kosher options and not charge a greater price

I would look into Prestige Caterers from NY! I think they’ll work with you to come in under $100/person – but not much under! We’re at around $95/person including open bar. And their food and service is truly the best of the best.

Have you tried Greenwald?
I think they were about $80-85pp.

I’m using Main Event and am very happy with them so far, but not sure on their price. I agree with some of the other suggestions though that many venues offer in-house kosher food, which brings the price way down. Here in Phila/S.Jersey, the cheapest places with kosher in-house were the Mansion and the Westin in Mt. Laurel, NJ.

Thanks for all the suggestions… I will check them out. Has anyone ever used to attended an event catered by signature? they are out of cherry hill and lakewood.. they are offering a really good price but they don’t do tastings which makes me a little nervous!

@sarindipity: What venue are you using with Main Event? Have you had any trouble communicating with them? I keep trying to work with them but they are so hard to get in contact with.. I sent an email over 3 weeks ago and never got a response..
