I’m curious to see what other people say! I bought it and used it for my Save-The-Date Cards. I am actually going to redo some because as I made them, I got better about putting the right amount of ink and the results were improved.  Mine don’t look totally professional, but I think that most of them look pretty good.  I ordered custom plates from here: https://boxcarpress.com/platemaking/index.jsp’ defer=’defer and also bought a new brayer (I think a 6″ one).  I used both expensive and super cheap ink, and didn’t notice a huge difference.  I did have a really tough time when I tried to mix ink, so I’m just going to stay away from that in the future!  I also bought a few pieces of plexiglass from Home Depot so use for my ink.  When my ink was a little too thick, I rolled the brayer out on a different piece of plexiglass to even it out a bit.

I had heard a lot from people that it’s a learn-by-doing process, and I really think it is.  I’ve learned how to tell when I have too much ink/not enough ink on the plates.  I’ve also gotten better at applying the ink more evenly.

Anyway, let me know if you have specific questions or concerns! I am definitely not an expert, but I might be able to help you out a bit.  If it makes you feel better, I plan on using the machine for my invitations, so it wasn’t a horrible experience!! Good luck =)

I haven’t sent them out yet, so I don’t want them to be on here…but I can PM them to you?! Is that possible (I’ve never done a PM before….)? I have them at home, so I can send them after work!

@MrsNeutrino: We just ordered ours today, too!  FI is so cute (he’s a graphic designer)… he’s been emailing me links from wedding blogs all day with tips and ideas.  It is already his favorite toy!

I’m going to bookmark this thread – I’ll let you know what we make of it!

Ok ….. I guess I should read a thread before posting … haha

I got into letterpress researching the L letterpress and then ended up buying an old Kelsey Excelsior.

Here is the previous thread about designing your own invites … I attached pictures to how mine turned out – thank goodness for Boxcar press!

Anyone design their own stationary? PIC SHARE and PROCESS RANT!
