I have heard about brides getting great deals on ordering centerpieces from the LA flower district. Has anyone ever done this and can give me some tips on how it works? What can I expect? I’m going to be in LA next week and wanted to stop by, to see what kinds of prices we’re talking about. Thanks!

We plan to get our centerpiece flowers from the LA Flower District. We went last weekend to check it out and prices are very reasonable. We’re just doing DIY centerpieces with orchids so there’s not a lot of arranging involved. Large cymbidiums were $15/stem and a bunch (about 10stems) of dendrobiums were $6. The selection is large and if you’re planning on using roses, peonies, stargazers or anything like that it’s even cheaper.
I’ve heard you can talk them down on the price if you buy in bulk, but I suck at that so I didn’t bother trying. As far as logistics go, we plan to order the flowers a few weeks before the wedding and pick them up the day before the wedding. Park in the parking structure to avoid the meter maids.

Thanks! Do you know of any florists around there that do centerpieces?

I think joyce is talking about DIY flowers whereas you want centerpieces premade. As far as I know, the florists inside the flower mart only sell wholesale flowers for DIY. However, when you go in person, if you wander the streets around the flower mart, there are a ton of little florist shops that do weddings (sorry, I can’t remember any of the names), and many of them (not all) are cheaper than the average florist. They will have arrangements on display and most of them also have catalogues you can flip through. When I was there, one of the places (I think it was called Maria’s) quoted me $55 to $65 for a tall, decently nice centerpiece. It helps to speak Spanish.
