I don’t have any advice for those things listed but the videographer we are using is Jim from fruit tree studios.  His videos are amazing.  www.ftsnow.com  He is pretty affordable too and is not too far from Rochester. Good luck planning!

Stacy K is great! I was also recommended to her but unfortunately she was unavailable the day of my wedding. if you can’t get her, I am using Kittelberger florist in webster ny, my florist is jimmy catalano and he is absolutely amazing! these are the colors I wanted:

and this is what he threw together in like 2 minutes during our consultation:

I haven’t been to max but heard its beautiful, the eastman house is of course gorgeous and historical. Both great choices in my opinion.

I’m not using a planner because I LOVE planning things myself and had so much fun doing so… but I do know of an event planner, I will get her info and get back to you.

If you have any other questions please feel free to ask! I can try to help, born and raised in rochester ๐Ÿ™‚

@teresaclaire:

Hey there my name is Valerie I am a local makeup artist, and I have worked with Stacy K floral and she is amazing. Sure not to disappoint. As far as rental companies there are allot in this area, LT rentals, bob spatola, Taylor rentals. You will want to call around and see who has what. I could give you an endless list of photographers, too. You can email me at [email protected]. I know I would love to work with you.

Hey! I didn’t get married in Rochester (adoringly called Rachaha) but I live about an hour away.

The Eastman House is beautiful, lots of history.

There’s an awesome crepe place there that would make a great unique rehearsal dinner or day after brunch venue! ๐Ÿ™‚

There are also plenty of “decent” photogs in Rochester also def not LA caliber. ๐Ÿ˜‰

GL!

I liked Stacy K also, but I am using The topiary Florist out of Pittsford, she is like my decoratign soulmate, it will depend on the feel you want but she is AMAZING, and very reasonably priced.  Part of the reason I loved her so much is that she will basically serve as my coordinator in terms of decor, she delivers and moved everythign between ceremony and reception and will stay as long as you want.  I’m inviting her to stay the whole reception after she sets up but she is very very hands on and want to create a tablescape and overall theme and Itrust her tomake every table, display and nook and corner gorgeous.  She will work with non traditional materials as well, we are doing a lot of succulents and white birch and branches and moss etc…

Photography is stressing me out, but if you want I have info, notes, and opinions on just about everyone in the area, many are already booked for my date Sept 29,2012 I did a giant mass email to all the photogs i could find and started crossing off based on the criteria I wanted and I’m down to about 5 right now.

Don’t limit yourself though, one of my faves is out of NYC and only charging $300 to travel to Geneva, which is pretty close to Rochester.

We’re Sept 29th.  I have since booked a Photographer, but I am not 100% in love, so we are doign E-pics with him (the deposit to secure the date was about the same as th charge for an e session) and then if I’m happy with those we’l keep him, if not we will go back to drawing board.

We used Hanlon Weddings (http://hanlonweddings.com/ , http://michaelhanlon.wordpress.com/) for our photography and we thought they were awesome!! We thought the photos turned out amazing and they were sooooooooo fun to work with but were very professional at the same time. They also were the organizers of a wedding show in Rochester so they would lots of great recommendations.

That’s as far as my wedding rec’s go since ours was closer to Buffalo. But Darling Husband and I went to school in Rochester so we were more comfortable there.

For restaurants there’s a hidden gem–Rooney’s (http://rooneysrestaurant.com/) that I was just so impressed with (and we’ve been to many restaurants in many cities)

There’s also Lento in Village Gate (http://www.lentorestaurant.com/) which is new since I’ve left but I’ve heard great things about.

And for general information, there’s the website http://rocwiki.org/ where you can find listings of restaurants and reviews and activites. Maybe that can help!

Good luck!

I’m in the same boat you are in. I live in LA and my fiance and I are getting married in upstate ny cause my fiance is also from rochester area. We are getting married in August 2014. So we are just starting to plan. But I feel so overwhelmed with having a wedding so far away. How did you handle it?
