Hey ladies! Do any of you have a lab diamond? My boyfriend took a geology class and his teacher told him that they have the same properties as a real diamond and are cheaper. Just curious what you think about them and I you could post some pictures if you have one that would be awesome!

ERM115: I don’t have one, but you can find some here:

They are cheaper than a mined diamond, but only by about 10%.

They are not really cheaper, except in fancy colour. I have some fancy pinks and they were tons cheaper than natural pink diamonds of the same colour. And mine are ideally cut, which is a great benefit of lab diamonds. But the whites are similar in price. Gemesis is another producer of lab diamonds, as well as Chatham. Mine are from Chatham.

I think the other advantage is that you don’t have to worry whether they were ethically sourced (no worries that it could be a blood diamond).
Main downside is if you want a huge diamond. I think they have trouble making them larger than a carat.
Otherwise they are molecularly identical to “natural” diamonds and no one could tell the difference.
