hssweetheart :  We had our wedding 4th of July weekend and people were pleased that we did it that way. We went to a wedding last labor day on Sunday and it kind of sucked since we couldn’t do anything that weekend since we had to be around for that wedding. At least with a friday wedding people can run to the shore the next day and enjoy the rest of their weekend.

hssweetheart :  That’s why we chose a friday wedding. It gives people the freedom of enjoying their weekend. We also had a lot of people fly in too for the wedding. Anyone who does a Sunday I also hear complaints about it.

I’m just confused as to why it needs to be during a long weekend at all. If you are already planning on a Friday, your guests will still have two days to relax or travel. It doesn’t seem like a huge deal if your guests don’t get the day off a whole three days after your wedding.

Friday wedding = not caring about your guests. It’s just true.

We are also considering a Friday of a long weekend (Thanksgiving) wedding. My FI’s family is Irish, so they won’t have a holiday that weekend anyway, and half my family is American, so may or may not have a long weekend that weekend. The other half of my family would come in from Alberta, but are also less likely to come in the first place, so I don’t feel the need to bend over backwards to accomodate them. The wedding would be in the afternoon, so local people could work a half day or something if they needed to, or just come to the reception in the evening if they really couldn’t get the day off. Our immediate families will be travelling internationally, so the idea of local people having a 4 day weekend off to celebrate with them appeals greatly.

Of course we still haven’t decided on a date, but the other option is the weekend before the long weekend, which is not without the weirdness of having people take a day or two off on the weekend before a long weekend!

I voted Sunday because everyone has Monday off, typically, so it would make sense. However, a lot of people take that Friday off too or leave work early so you really could make both days work.
