Today we had our walk-through with the caterer and the site coordinator. (It’s a venue where you can bring in outside caterers, but my caterer also acts as a DOC.) We’re having our ceremony and reception at the same place. Today I find out that the venue is charging us a labor fee for moving furniture between our ceremony and reception! I’m kind of to the point in the planning where I’m too exasperated to argue about these things, plus, this is a city-owned venue, and the “labor” is actually firemen from the fire station across the street. So maybe at least my friends will get some good eye-candy out of it 🙂
I’m just frustrated with these never-ending nickel and dime charges. If we rented the venue and all the furniture, why do we have to pay extra now for them to move it for us? Shouldn’t that have been included in the rental fee??
Who else is frustrated with last-minute “surprise” add-ons?

I hear you, that stuff adds up and when you think you’re getting a good deal, there it goes. Hopefully that’s the last of it for you!

My venu charges for breaking down the room during ceremony and reception but it is included in the room rental up front.

I don’t know why your venue does this. I would think that the rental fee should include the most basic service unless stated otherwise. I’m expecting that if it’s not explained anywhere in my contract, in the fine prints, in the finalized budget, I wouldn’t need to pay for it. These hidden fees seem illegal. What if they throw you another “oh, you want running water and electricity at your venu? that’s another $____”

Yeah, mine was included in the contract. But what I thought was funny was that there was no fee for renting the restaurant where we’re having our reception, just a minimum expenditure, but to have the ceremony there too adds 300$. But all things considered, I was just happy to have found a place that includes food wine and beer plus a ceremony site for under 5k!
