I’m excited..there are 2 labor pools available at our hospital. OB encouraged me to talk to the midwife about it. If we get there in time and before they are taken up…we get to use it-first come, first serve. You have to buy some kind of contraption/gadget that goes with it but not sure what. Wondered if any Bees have tried/seen/heard about them from personal friends or yourself. We love the water…and think it would be great to float around before the actual pushing comes. You can not be in it for the actual birthing.
I saw my friend give birth last year and she was able to get into the bathtub for awhile at her hospital. I’m figuring it is similar. The nurses had to urge and convince her to leave the tub to go to the table to deliver b/c she didn’t really want to leave when the time came.

My cousin actually gave birth in the tub, so I think whether or not you’re allowed to depends on the type of tub/pool and the hospital. She said it wasn’t as bad as she thought it would be, but then she also had a super-quick labor for a first baby (four hours).

Only 4 hours, that is encouraging! I like it. Midwife and OB both said DH can come in with surf shorts to join me and I can lean on him. Found out the insert kit is only $40…I think this type of pain management is for me! Hospital said I have to let them know I’m on the way b/c it takes 2 hours to fill the pool and a lot of people have given birth before they got a chance to get in the tub b/c it wasn’t full yet. (Waste of water! :D)

Each room in my hospital had a tub, but by the time I finally came in there was no time for tubbing… it was time for the epidural and delivery.

I’m a student nurse planning to specialize in women’s health, and I did a presentation on waterbirths. : ) It’s a really awesome way to manage pain for sure! (It also reduces tearing and such when it comes time for the actual birth, as well.)
