Rate the pain on the scale of 1 – 10. 10 being the worst you’ve ever felt.
Rate the pain on the scale of 1 – 10. 10 being the worst you’ve ever felt.
I have had two, the first one was an 8, but it was all back labor. It kind of felt like a sledge hammer on my tail bone. The second one was a 2 or a 3 at most. I really thought I had gas all day as I had enchiladas for lunch, surprise, it was labor.
Labour with my son was hard and long (20 hours and 16 minutes) and was probably about an 8. With my daughter it was fast and furious (3 hours 32 minutes) and getting one of her shoulders out was a definite 10. However, I have had ‘bang my head against the wall complete with projectile vomiting’ migraines that were about 492 so it’s all relative.
Having said that, they don’t call it labour for nothing!
It was probably a 10, but I haven’t had many experiences in life that were physically painful either. (No broken bones, no kidney stones, etc.)
I had a drug-free birth. I remember right afterwards talking about how much it hurt, but within a day or two, my recollection of it had turned into “not so bad, I could do it again”. If I get pregnant again, I’ll go for a natural birth again.
I have had a child (back labor, but short and with an epi at 5cm) and I’ve had a ruptured abdominal cyst (akin to appendicitis). The cyst was worse. Labor, I felt like I could get through it if I had to, but just didn’t feel like dealing with the pain. Cyst, I thought I was going to pass out from the pain.
I had an epidural, so…no. The beginning felt like the most painful gas I’ve ever had in my life. In fact, I spent all day running to the bathroom, thinking I had to go, until I finally figured out it was labor. I slept through the rest of my labor as soon as I got the epi.
I’ve not had kids yet, but I have passed 2 kidney stones. I’ve been told that is worse than child birth and I survived for several hours without any morphine/vicodin/etc. Just thought I throw that in… I’ll report back in, oh 5 years about the comparison :p
Wow, you ladies had a nice labor experience.LOL
Mine was a 10- back labor and she was breech. Fun, fun fun for 15hrs! I’ve had an emergency gall bladder removal and that was horrible pain, but labor had me writhing in the bed, crying.
That experience made question another child. I had an epidural, but it was just too much for me.
With my first, probably a 2. I had to be told I was in labor when someone rubbing my tummy told me I was having contractions about 2 minutes apart. I went in and had him seven hours later. With my daughter, I got all the way to 9 cm naturally. The pain was probably an 8. I with I would have stuck it out and delivered without an epidural. Looking back, it wasn’t bad.
this is a great poll…i’m pregnant and wonder about the pain level all the time.
@mrsbruff2b: 10 but totaly worth it! its nothing you cant handle
I would say a 7 or 8. Breaking my ankle in two places was way worse in the pain area than giving birth to my son.
I didn’t have time for an epidural and honestly towards the end it was a 10. My contractions went from feeling like period cramps to feeling like I was dying once I reached 6 cm and my water broke. The contractions made pushing feel like nothing though which was nice.
Also, I’ve never really had a painful experience besides this so I have nothing to compare it to.
I had a very long labor experience with child number 1. Over 36 hours, with closest, most intense contractions being 2 minutes apart, all back labor. He ended up being an emergency c-section.
Child number 2 was only 12 hours, again back labor, about 5 minutes apart, ended in emergency c-section.
With both, I would say having kidney stones was way worse. Contractions come and go, however, the kidney stone pain does not.
